With the start of the new school year just around the corner, drivers are reminded to:

* Prepare to stop when a slowing bus has its overhead yellow lights flashing.
* Stop at least 20 feet away from buses when red lights are flashing, unless driving in the opposite direction on a divided highway.
* Slow down in or near school and residential areas.
* Look for clues—such as safety patrols, crossing guards, bicycles, and playgrounds—that indicate children might be in the area.
* Watch for children between parked cars and other objects.

We are proud to support Oakland County Parks Life Jacket distribution program and help spread the word! The life jacket giveaways are part of Metroparks’ Everyone in the Pool initiative, a region-wide effort to increase swim access and safety for children and families across Southeast Michigan.

We are teaming up with local partners across Southeast Michigan and sponsor Thrivent to host three free life jacket giveaway events this June to give out a total of 1,300 life jackets. The events will include family-friendly activities, educational opportunities and information about Metroparks programming and resources. Everyone deserves to feel safe around water, but we know cost and access to swim lessons and life jackets are a barrier for many families in our community. These drops are designed to remove barriers, keep families safe and increase confidence around the water this summer.

Come grab a life jacket, enjoy some fun activities and kick off the summer season with us. Life jackets are available in both adult and youth sizes on a first-come, first-served basis, so plan accordingly!
Registration requested for the June 25 event at Gardner White: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/gardner-white-x-metroparks-family-summer-kick-off-tickets-1409234681869?aff=oddtdtcreator
