Grief doesn’t come to destroy us—it comes to walk with us through loss. After back-to-back miscarriages, Gabriela Spicer, MA, LPC, learned that avoiding pain only made it louder. When she finally leaned in, grief became less of a burden and more of a strange, sacred gift. 💔🌊

If you're grieving, you're not alone. Read more on the blog.

Written by Gabriela Spicer, M.A., LPC I experienced a long season of back-to-back losses. It started with two miscarriages six months apart. My husband and I were eager to have more children after our first two. We were hopeful and ready. After I found out...

Dr. Dodd is proud to be able to share the brilliance of Lew from his lectures to a larger audience.

In February Dr. Dodd and colleague, Liz Woodruff, presented at the International Association of Eating Disorders Professionals annual conference. Their talk, A Psychoanalytic Understanding of Eating Disorders in Athletes: Defensive and Facilitative Potentials, explored the complex relationship between trauma, our relationship to food and our bodies, sport, and the role of depth psychology in understanding and treating eating disorders. They hope this work can be used to examine the defensive and facilitative functions of our relationships to food and our bodies.

The United States Surgeon General, Dr. Vivek Murthy, recently issued a Surgeon General’s Advisory on the Mental Health and Well-Being of Parents. Within the full advisory (https://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/parents-under-pressure.pdf), Dr. Murthy highlights the many consistent and ongoing challenges of parenthood in modern society, noting cultures of constant comparison, limited social support, mounting financial strain for child care, safety concerns amid growing exposure to mass violence, and an ever-increasing demand to do more, be more present, and help our children become more successful all while feeling more isolated than ever.

The practitioners of The Chrysalis Center recognize these challenges in our community and wish to be part of the solution. Through our shared focus on relationship and attunement, we strive to help parents, children, and communities to address this often shaming and isolating parental climate. In addition to individual and couple therapy, as well as parental consultation, we also offer a Rhythm and Rattles group that focuses on helping new parents attune to their infants and foster connections to other parents. If you or someone you know is struggling with the demands of parenthood, please consider if we may be of service!
