This North Texas businessman and pickleball player developed a blood clot in his lungs after a work trip to New York.

He needed a cardiology team that could handle the complex process of safely removing the clot.

Islamuddin Rafiq was visiting his grandkids in Southlake from California when the 64 year old started having chest pains.

He’d already had a pacemaker implanted so he knew he needed to get to the hospital fast—luckily, Methodist Southlake was 5 minutes away!

The heart team quickly determined it was time for a pacemaker upgrade. They implanted a new device called a BIV ICD that got his heart pumping properly again.

It was a first for the hospital, and after just 2 days at Methodist Southlake, the grandfather was able to go back to enjoying his family.💙
