As your child ages, the vaccines they received during infancy and toddlerhood begin to have decreased levels in their immune system so boosters are needed.

School-age kids need important boosters such as Tdap, MMR, and varicella. These vaccines prevent diseases like whooping cough and measles, which can still pose risks in school communities.

Staying up to date keeps everyone safe.

Call our office today to make sure your child is ready for the school year with all required vaccines or send us a message through the portal.

Is your teen heading off to college? Do you have questions about managing their medications?

Managing medications independently is an important part of preparing for college life. Make sure your student knows when and how to take their meds, has enough refills, and understands how to get in touch with their provider if issues arise. Set reminders if needed and keep a list of medications in an accessible place.

We’re happy to help you and your college student get everything organized before the semester starts. Call us to schedule a prep visit.

Feeling nervous about the new school year is normal for both kids and parents.

Some worry is expected, but if your child experiences trouble sleeping, frequent tummy aches, or major clinginess, it could be anxiety. Start routines early, talk openly about their feelings, and validate their concerns. Small steps like visiting the school beforehand and letting them pick out fun items off their school list can make a big difference.

What’s your child most excited (or nervous) about for the new year? Or as Dr. A calls it “Nervcited” (nervous and excited at the same time).

Share below – we’d love to hear from you.

Too much screen time can impact your child’s sleep, focus, and behavior.

A few healthy limits to create for your family include setting a family media plan with clear rules, designating screen-free zones (like bedrooms and dinner tables), balance screen time with outdoor play and reading, and model healthy habits yourself.

Want personalized tips for your child’s age? Well visits are a great time to discuss screen time and internet safety with your child’s provider. Call Arbor Pediatrics today to schedule an appointment.

Lice happens and it’s nothing to be embarrassed about.

These tiny bugs spread easily through shared items like hats, brushes, or close contact. If your child is scratching their scalp more than usual or you spot tiny white nits (eggs), it's time to check.

Over-the-counter treatments and thorough combing usually do the trick. If you are unsure about using OTC treatments, our providers can prescribe treatments you can do at home.

To prevent reinfestation after lice, wash bedding, clothing, and hats in hot water and dry on high heat, and seal non-washable items in a plastic bag for two weeks.

Call our phone nurse to find out what treatments are available for your child.

Wondering if it’s normal your newborn hasn’t pooped today?

Newborn pooping patterns vary. In the early weeks, all babies tend to stool every day. As your infant gets older (usually around 1 month of age), they may begin to have changes in their stooling frequency. Breastfed babies can go up to 7 days without stooling while formula fed babies tend to stool every 3-5 days. What matters most is stool consistency and comfort.

Call us if your baby seems uncomfortable, has a hard belly, refusing feeds, or projectile spitting.

Our Providers at Arbor Pediatrics are here for those “is this normal?” questions.

Did your child spend a little too much time in the sun?

Sunburns can be painful and harmful to young skin. Use cool compresses, apply aloe vera or child-safe lotion, and keep them well hydrated. If blisters appear, fever develops, or the burn covers a large area, give us a call. Some cases of sunburn need medical intervention.

As you and your family enjoy the long summer days, remember to apply at least 30 SPF and reapply every 2 hours or after swimming.

Need guidance on what type of sunscreen to use? Call us to get some recs.
