Father’s Day is different for everyone. For some, they grieve, for others, they celebrate. However you chose to spend today, it’s okay. Show yourself the grace you show others, speak to yourself like you’d speak to a best friend.

The holidays can bring an array of emotions. For some, it’s a joyous time, for others it’s a reminder of grief. You can be sad and thankful, the two aren’t mutually exclusive. Please take the time to feel your emotions.

This. Part. Right. Here.

Show yourself the kindness and respect that you show others. Talk to yourself like you’d talk to your best friend. You create your own narrative, don’t give anyone the power to take that from you.

Let’s talk Boundaries!

A boundary is a limit we set or a line we draw. It can be physical, emotional, sexual, , or material.
We teach people how to treat us by what we allow, what we stop, or what we reinforce.

The holidays are already stressful, you don’t owe anyone a visit or your time, if being there makes you feel a certain way. Some will say, “oh you’re family….” Negative ghost rider, family doesn’t get a free pass to violate our boundaries.

We have to vocalize the things we aren’t okay with. If I don’t tell Aunt Sally that her comments about my weight bother me, then I’m kinda saying her behavior is okay. If I tell her I don’t like it and she still says things, it is then up to me to set a boundary. That boundary may be me not visiting when she’s there or me ignoring her and not engaging. We don’t owe others an explanation for the boundaries we set because the ones that complain about our boundaries are usually the ones violating them.

Remember that choosing to keep the peace for others often means sacrificing our own.

(Side note: I don’t have an Aunt Sally, just wanted to give an example.)

So let’s talk therapy!

Some common FAQ’s
What is it?
For some people it’s a place to process trauma and life stressors.
For others, it’s a place to learn to manage anxiety and worries.
Others utilize it to build self esteem .
Some people just want a safe space to be their true authentic self.

Therapy is what you make of it.

How often is it?
You’ll work with your therapist to determine how you can benefit from treatment and come up with a plan for treatment. That plan should include how often sessions are.

I know things can get chaotic as the holidays approach. There seems to be too much left to do at the end of the day…breathe. Take a few minutes to check in with your body. Release the tension, recognize where you feel things in your body. Fill your own cup before filling someone else’s.
