You notice an uncomfortable itch and a change in discharge. Your first instinct is probably to head to the pharmacy for an over-the-counter yeast infection treatment. But what if it's not a yeast infection? Bacterial vaginosis (BV) and yeast infections are the two most common causes of vaginitis. Because they share overlapping symptoms, they are frequently confused. But treating BV with a yeast infection cream won't workโ€”and it can actually make your symptoms worse. BV requires prescription antibiotics. Leaving it untreated carries real health risks, including increased susceptibility to STIs and complications during pregnancy. ๐Ÿ“– Learn how to tell the difference โ†’https://womensintegratedhealthcare.com/bv-vs-yeast-infection-symptoms-treatment/ ๐Ÿ“… Schedule an appointment โ†’ womensintegratedhealthcare.com/contact-us/

May is Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month. For nine months, you saw your obstetrician constantly. Then, you had your baby. Suddenly, the intense medical focus shifted entirely to your newborn, and you were sent home with instructions to come back in six weeks. The "fourth trimester" is a period of immense physical and emotional transition. Yet, many women feel adrift, assuming that if they are surviving, they are recovering. Your 6-week postpartum visit is not just a formality to get cleared for exercise. It is a comprehensive evaluation of your physical healing and your mental health. If you are struggling with anxiety, intrusive thoughts, or persistent sadness, this is the time to tell us. ๐Ÿ“… Schedule your postpartum checkup โ†’ womensintegratedhealthcare.com/contact-us/

I just thought leaking when I sneezed was the price of having three kids," Sarah admitted. She had stopped running, avoided jumping jacks, and carried a spare pair of underwear in her purse. "My friends joke about it. I figured it was just normal." It is incredibly common. But it is not normal. The normalization of pelvic floor dysfunction prevents millions of women from seeking treatment for highly correctable conditions. Whether it's urinary incontinence, pain during in*******se, or a constant feeling of heaviness, you don't have to simply live with it. Pelvic floor physical therapy is a highly effective, non-surgical treatment that addresses the root cause of the dysfunction. ๐Ÿ“– Read our guide to pelvic floor health โ†’ https://womensintegratedhealthcare.com/pelvic-floor-health-dysfunction-symptoms/ ๐Ÿ“… Schedule a consultation โ†’ womensintegratedhealthcare.com/contact-us/

Sarah woke up at 14 weeks and realized something was missing: the nausea. She actually wanted coffee. She had energy to walk the dog. "Is it supposed to just stop like this?" she asked. For many women, the transition into the second trimester feels exactly like this. The intense fatigue and morning sickness lift, replaced by a renewed sense of well-being. But "feeling normal" doesn't mean nothing is happening. Your baby is growing from the size of a plum to a papaya. You'll likely feel their first movements. And you'll have your anatomy scanโ€”one of the most important milestones of your pregnancy. Our newest blog covers exactly what's happening during weeks 14 to 27, and what symptoms to expect next. ๐Ÿ“– Read the blog โ†’ https://womensintegratedhealthcare.com/6-week-postpartum-visit-what-to-expect/ ๐Ÿ“… Schedule a prenatal appointment โ†’ womensintegratedhealthcare.com/contact-us/

If you take medication for a chronic condition โ€” thyroid disease, asthma, depression, high blood pressure, epilepsy โ€” do not stop it when you learn you're pregnant without speaking to your provider first.
Uncontrolled chronic conditions during pregnancy are often riskier than the medications used to manage them. Uncontrolled thyroid disease affects fetal brain development. Uncontrolled asthma reduces oxygen to the baby. Untreated depression and anxiety carry real pregnancy risks.
The right approach isn't to stop everything and hope for the best. It's to review your regimen with your OB-GYN โ€” who may confirm your current medications are appropriate, adjust doses, or switch to pregnancy-safe alternatives. That review should happen at your first prenatal appointment, or ideally before you conceive.

Endometriosis is found in 25โ€“50 percent of women experiencing infertility. That number sounds alarming โ€” but here's the fuller picture.
Many women with endometriosis conceive naturally. The condition affects fertility differently depending on its severity, location, and whether it has caused tubal scarring or diminished ovarian reserve.
For women with endometriosis who are having difficulty conceiving, a clear evaluation of what's specifically affecting fertility guides treatment. That might mean laparoscopic surgery to remove adhesions or ovarian endometriomas, ovulation induction, IUI, or IVF โ€” or a combination.
What it doesn't mean is that pregnancy isn't possible. A specific diagnosis and plan is far more useful than general reassurance or premature alarm.

PCOS treatment depends entirely on what you're trying to achieve.
Managing symptoms and regulating your cycle? Combined hormonal contraceptives are often first-line, alongside metformin for insulin resistance.
Dealing with excess hair growth or persistent acne? Anti-androgen medications like spironolactone address the androgen-driven symptoms directly.
Trying to conceive? Ovulation induction with letrozole is typically the starting point, with additional options depending on your full picture.
Reducing long-term health risk? A low-glycemic diet and regular strength training improve insulin sensitivity and cardiovascular health โ€” independent of any medication.
There's no universal PCOS protocol because PCOS doesn't present the same way in every woman. Your treatment plan should reflect your specific symptoms and goals.

Preconception nutrition isn't a strict diet. It's a set of consistent habits that support hormone production, egg quality, and the very early fetal development that happens before you even know you're pregnant.
Focus on: leafy greens and colorful vegetables for folate and antioxidants, healthy fats for hormone production, lean protein and legumes for blood sugar stability, and whole grains for sustained energy.
Limit caffeine to under 200mg daily โ€” about one 12-ounce coffee. Cut back on alcohol; no amount is proven safe during the conception window. Avoid high-mercury fish like shark, swordfish, and king mackerel.
None of this needs to be perfect. Consistent beats perfect every time.

One of the most common calls we receive from newly pregnant patients: "I took [medication] before I knew I was pregnant. Is my baby okay?"
Almost always, the answer is reassuring.
Very early in pregnancy, before implantation and in the first days after, there's an "all or nothing" effect โ€” exposures either have no impact or affect the pregnancy entirely. Common OTC medications taken in those first days rarely cause problems.
What to do: Make a list of everything you've taken and bring it to your first prenatal appointment. Your provider can review each item and give you a real answer โ€” not a generic "stop everything" or a panicked assumption of the worst.
If you're early in pregnancy and have questions, call us. That's exactly what we're here for.

When you're in an endometriosis flare, the goal is to reduce inflammation and manage the muscular response โ€” not just numb the pain and wait it out.
NSAIDs like ibuprofen work best when started preventively, one to two days before your period rather than after pain has already peaked. Heat therapy relaxes pelvic floor muscles that tighten in response to pain. Rest isn't giving in โ€” it's appropriate management of an inflammatory condition.
Pelvic floor physical therapy, used consistently between flares, reduces the baseline muscle tension that makes flares more severe. Many women with endometriosis notice significant improvement in day-to-day pain once they begin pelvic floor PT โ€” not just during their cycles, but throughout the month.
If your flares are frequent, severe, or disrupting your ability to work or be active, that's a signal that your treatment plan needs adjustment.
