Dr. Gordon and Isabel McKinsey, NP sat down to have the real conversation about what’s happening in our own backyard.
By now you may have heard — a Southlake med spa received an FDA warning letter after inspectors found that its purchase records and patient dispensing records did not match the number of Botox units purchased from the authorized manufacturer, AbbVie. In plain English — they were administering more Botox than they could have legally purchased. The FDA found the spa violated federal laws meant to protect patients from exposure to counterfeit, stolen, contaminated or harmful drugs.
And as Dr. Gordon said in part one — this is more common than people realize. They just got caught.
Here’s what you need to know as a patient:

When everyone in Southlake started talking about this, my patients started texting me.

So, I want to address it — because you deserve honest information from someone you trust.

A local med spa recently received an FDA warning letter for allegedly administering Botox that wasn’t sourced from AbbVie — the pharmaceutical giant and sole distributor of Botox. The FDA inspected the facility. The discrepancy between what was purchased and what was injected into patients couldn’t be explained.

This isn’t a fringe problem. The FDA has confirmed counterfeit Botox has been found across multiple states — and people have been hospitalized because of it. It’s a real risk, and it’s closer to home than most people realize.

Here’s what most patients don’t know: in Texas, many med spas are owned by non-physicians. A business owner — not a doctor — calling the shots. A medical director who may rarely set foot in the building. And patients who have no idea.
