How did this not hit national news? If it did, I totally missed it.

For all the mass shootings, su***de rates rising, substance abuse rampant, how can we say Mental Health shouldn't be covered the same as other healthcare? The Parity Rule was supposed to make healthcare insurers actually cover mental health illness just as they would any other medical illness. It is currently on pause because healthcare companies are fighting this new law, as I'm sure you can imagine why. $$$

The Trump administration will not enforce a federal rule meant to ensure Americans with private health insurance have access to affordable mental health services and is considering rescinding it altogether, the U.S. Justice Department said in a court filing on Friday.

Summer break provides an opportunity for parents to support their kids in acquiring new skills, building resilience, and developing a growth mindset. A summer camp focused on personal growth, self-awareness, and social skills can be a highly beneficial experience for kids who are struggling. Family camps are also an option and offer a chance for families to reconnect, strengthen their bonds, and work together towards creating a more positive, supportive family environment.

How does mental health care measure in your state? Texas has consistently been ranked at the bottom. Many families have to look for resources out of the state to get quality care.

Over 50 million Americans have a mental illness, but more than half (55%) of adults with a mental illness don’t receive treatment. In some states, accessing mental health care may be more challenging because of high costs, too few mental health treatment centers and lack of health insurance covera...

There are many ways to look at intelligence.

There are many ways to look at intelligence.

"According to Psychologists, there are four types of Intelligence:

1) Intelligence Quotient (IQ)
2) Emotional Quotient (EQ)
3) Social Quotient (SQ)
4) Adversity Quotient (AQ)

1. Intelligence Quotient (IQ): this is the measure of your level of comprehension. You need IQ to solve math's, memorize things, and recall lessons.

2. Emotional Quotient (EQ): this is the measure of your ability to maintain peace with others, keep to time, be responsible, be honest, respect boundaries, be humble, genuine and considerate.

3. Social Quotient (SQ): this is the measure of your ability to build a network of friends and maintain it over a long period of time.

People that have higher EQ and SQ tend to go further in life than those with a high IQ but low EQ and SQ. Most schools capitalize on improving IQ levels while EQ and SQ are played down.

A man of high IQ can end up being employed by a man of high EQ and SQ even though he has an average IQ.

Your EQ represents your Character, while your SQ represents your Charisma. Give in to habits that will improve these three Qs, especially your EQ and SQ.

Now there is a 4th one, a new paradigm:

4. The Adversity Quotient (AQ): The measure of your ability to go through a rough patch in life, and come out of it without losing your mind.

When faced with troubles, AQ determines who will give up, who will abandon their family, and who will consider su***de.

Parents please expose your children to other areas of life than just Academics. They should adore manual labour (never use work as a form of punishment), Sports and Arts.

Develop their IQ, as well as their EQ, SQ and AQ. They should become multifaceted human beings able to do things independently of their parents.

Finally, do not prepare the road for your children. Prepare your children for the road."

So much truth in this quick read. If we could see a broken spirit like we can see a broken leg, we can better protect and care for our communities. Our civilization needs more protectors and more healers.
When you set a broken bone, it will hurt before it heals and you will likely need a professional and community support. The same is true for mental health.
It may not always be easy but it will be worth it.

“Years ago, anthropologist Margaret Mead was asked by a student what she considered to be the first sign of civilization in a culture. The student expected Mead to talk about fishhooks or clay pots or grinding stones.

But no. Mead said that the first sign of civilization in an ancient culture was a femur (thighbone) that had been broken and then healed. Mead explained that in the animal kingdom, if you break your leg, you die. You cannot run from danger, get to the river for a drink or hunt for food. You are meat for prowling beasts. No animal survives a broken leg long enough for the bone to heal.

A broken femur that has healed is evidence that someone has taken time to stay with the one who fell, has bound up the wound, has carried the person to safety and has tended the person through recovery. Helping someone else through difficulty is where civilization starts, Mead said.

We are at our best when we serve others.”

After a bit of a hiatus due to COVID and loss in my family, I'm back full-time doing what I LOVE, helping families find their path to healing.
These have been challenging times for our colleagues, clients and programs. Alot has changed in the industry, but the same purpose is still there. The healing is still possible, recovery is still attainable, the light at the end of the tunnel is still shining.
Looking forward to reconnecting with colleagues, and supporting more new client families!

An interesting comparison of parenting from different cultures.

When Michaeleen Doucleff met parents from around the world, she encountered millennia-old methods of raising good kids that made American parenting seem bizarre and ineffective.
