Happy Teacher Appreciation Week & National Nurses Week!
This week, I've been reflecting on something Penske reminded me of: taking care of employees isn't just good culture, it's essential to the work they do.
Teachers and nurses are the backbone of our communities. They show up every day to care for our children, our patients, and our futures. But who's taking care of them?
Here's something many don't realize:
Most teachers and nurses have access to HSA (Health Savings Account) and FSA (Flexible Spending Account) benefits. This is pre-tax dollars set aside specifically for healthcare and wellness services, including those that we offer!
Yet so many educators and healthcare professionals don't know they can use these benefits for self-care that actually restores their nervous system, reduces burnout, and improves their ability to show up fully for the people who depend on them.
Why this matters:
Research shows that chronic stress among teachers directly impacts classroom management, student engagement, and overall learning outcomes. For nurses, burnout contributes to compassion fatigue and even patient safety risks. When we support the well-being of caregivers and educators, we're investing in better outcomes for students and patients alike. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC11539016/
At Sabita Holistic Center, we've had the privilege of working hand-in-hand with:
-Educators to support wellness curriculum and stress management workshops
-Healthcare providers and nurses as part of patient care and recovery plans
We've seen firsthand how intentional, restorative care helps professionals stay grounded, present, and effective in their roles.

To HR teams, school administrators, and healthcare organizations:
This is a perfect time to remind your staff about their HSA/FSA benefits and how they can be used for meaningful self-care. Consider adding wellness options that actually make a difference to your employee benefits communications. It's a small step that can make a big impact on retention, morale, and performance.
Let's normalize preventing burnout and recovery as part of sustainable performance!
