New Haven Residential Treatment Center

New Haven Residential Treatment Center One of the most experienced treatment teams working with and . Clinical excellence. The warmth and love of a home away from home.

At New Haven, our residential treatment center is built on one simple question: What would I want for my daughter? We know that underneath her struggles – whether with an eating disorder, substance abuse, trauma, or another challenging emotional issue – your daughter is still there, waiting to be discovered, loved back to wholeness, and reunited with her family. After twenty years of working together, our treatment team is one of the most experienced in the field of girls' adolescent treatment. We know from experience that girls struggling with complex emotional and behavioral issues need access to a variety of proven therapies. Experience has also taught us that even the most clinically sophisticated approaches to treatment are only effective if those delivering them come from a place of connection, compassion, and hope. That's what we'd want for our daughters. So that's what we provide for yours. And it works. Our outcome studies show that most of our graduates – even those who have not been successful in other placements – never need another treatment program after New Haven.

✨New Haven History ✨

New Haven’s first home, named after Sacagawea, opened in 1995 as New Haven’s first house. When it first opened, it was the only property that New Haven owned. The owners, Mark and Kathy, gave everything to make New Haven work. They drove their own personal van for the students, they brought in their own dining room table, they lived with the students as house parents and created New Haven to be something different than what every other program at the time was. Now, this home is consistently supporting 12 students.

All of the homes at New Haven are named after influential women. Sacagawea is one of the most iconic and influential women in American history. She helped the expedition of Lewis and Clark. With her guidance, she allowed the group to successfully make their way across the Rocky Mountains. Sacagawea’s presence in the expedition was seen as a symbol of peace. Her presence helped to establish trust with many of the tribes they encountered. She proved to be a skilled and resilient leader. She is celebrated as a symbol of strength, intelligence, and perseverance.

When New Haven opened 30 years ago, there were very few places like it. New Haven’s growth over the next 20 years was evidence of the need for what the program provided. By 2000, a second home was built. A third home on a second campus was added in 2001. Fourth, fifth, and sixth homes were built in 2006, 2013 and 2014.

As New Haven has grown, so have the ways we work to meet the needs of the adolescents and their families we have the opportunity to serve. In 2023, we converted New Haven’s original home into a stabilization and assessment program, which has allowed us to meet New Haven’s mission and vision in a new way.

Our clinical team now includes 19 therapists and three recreation therapists, each trained in a specialized modality. Our school has become a true college prep environment, teaching 16 AP courses every year. Our students have the opportunity to play volleyball, basketball, and soccer against other small high schools in the area. We have nurses on campus around the clock to help care for the medical needs of our students. Four dogs, a dozen cats, and 20 horses call our campuses home.

Each of these additions to New Haven’s program supports the original intent of New Haven – to be a therapeutic haven and school, where each of our students can make peace with their past, thrive in the present, and create a hopeful future hand-in-hand with their family.

“You said we’re a team. One person struggles, we all struggle. One person triumphs, we all triumph.”
‒ Jason Lyle, Coach Carter.

“I have never coached a team this special. These players show up and show out. I have never seen a group of such resilient kids who are not only challenging themselves physically but also mentally. They have held each other accountable. They supported one another and the coaches. They have shown what a TEAM is all about. This season these kids PUSHED themselves beyond their limits and it showed how they were in school, practice, games, in their community etc. I have loved being their coach and seeing them win, lose and struggle together.”
- Teysha Tiatia, Residential Director & Volleyball Coach
