Lifestyle changes may play a significant role in managing GERD symptoms.

Key adjustments include eating smaller, more frequent meals, avoiding trigger foods such as fatty or spicy foods, chocolate, caffeine, and alcohol, and losing weight if overweight or obese. It's also helpful to avoid lying down immediately after eating and to elevate the head of the bed to reduce acid reflux during the night. Quitting smoking is another important step.

While these changes can help alleviate symptoms, some individuals may still need medication, such as antacids, H2 blockers, or proton pump inhibitors (PPIs), for more effective management of the condition.
