When symptoms do occur, they can be vague, seem like they’re not that serious or may be attributed to other common health issues. Baby Evan made his arrival recently while mom and dad were quietly cooking dinner - he crashed the party! Not only was he ready for his debut, he's already showing his spunky side by tugging at his CPAP (ready to head home). Evan's parents shared, "We're incredibly grateful to the hospital staff. Every nurse and doctor we met was kind, attentive, and went above and beyond to keep us informed and reassured during a challenging time. We can't name them all, but we are so glad we chose Sierra Medical Center."

Does menopause impact cardiovascular health? It is widely known that the hormone estrogen has anti-aging properties, but it is a lesser-known fact that the same hormone has multiple cardio and metabolic protective properties. As women begin to age, our estrogen levels start to decline, and we lose many of the cardio protective and anti-aging benefits of estrogen thus increasing our risks for cardiovascular disease. Nurse Chelsea B. is our newest Northern Star to be recognized. She takes pride in her job while working at the ER at Spanish Springs, an extension of Northern Nevada Medical Center, and recognized a need to overhaul the pediatrics and infant supplies at the ER. Little did she know her proactiveness would come in handy the next day.

On her next shift, Chelsea and the physician on staff cared for an unresponsive 7-month old who recently had open-heart surgery. The mother came to the freestanding ER because it was closest to her home and she needed emergency life-saving care for her child. Chelsea's review of pediatric supplies the day prior helped the team successfully stabilize the child before being transferred to a pediatric trauma center. She is a true life-saver and we are lucky to have her on our team!
