Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain internal control and safeguard assets for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures to assure accurate and timely recording of all transactions by implementing disciplines of internal audits, controls and checks across all departments.
• Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership and Board of Directors abreast of organizational financial status.
• Develops and implements an effective billing system that assures that all services are billed correctly to include proper documentation, and minimizes the time necessary to collect payments.
• Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants.
• Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with senior management; continuously collaborate with senior management to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
• Assist in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate. Provide regular feedback and direction to senior management regarding budgetary status.
• Manage the accuracy and productivity of day-to-day activities of accounts payable, cash disbursements, invoicing/billing, customer credits and collections, payroll, perpetual inventory integrity, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, cost accounting, Human Resources, and operations.
• Provide financial input to the organization’s strategic planning process, assuring that a long-range financial plan is part of the strategic plan, and update the plan as outlined in the process.
• Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audit.
• Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelor’s degree in finance, business administration, accounting, or related field and five years of progressively responsible experience.
• A strong understanding of finance and accounting practice, with grants management experience.
• Mastery of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including thorough understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), internal controls and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, regulations and guidelines related to assigned work.
• Annual budget and audit preparation.
• Knowledge and experience managing a nonprofit organization, or similar business management experience.
• Knowledge of current computer technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications.
• Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail.
• Ability to effectively identify and resolve problems and to maintain strict confidentiality related to sensitive information.
