RPI recently had the privilege of working with the Boonton Fire Department on Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) Operations. This is a skill set that every firefighter hopes they never have to use but must be ready for at any moment.

When a firefighter becomes lost, trapped, or injured on the fireground, seconds count. A trained and prepared RIC can mean the difference between life and death. These operations demand precision, communication, and teamwork under extreme pressure, which is why consistent and realistic training is absolutely critical.

We commend the Boonton FD for taking the time to sharpen these lifesaving skills and for their commitment to protecting their own. If your agency has not scheduled a RIC Operations training recently, now is the time because when the call comes there are no do overs.

RPI recently worked with the Ridgefield Park Volunteer Fire Department on a full Man in Machine training series—covering Awareness, Operations, and Technician levels.

From basic scene safety and hazard recognition to complex disentanglement scenarios, members tackled real-world challenges like machinery entrapments, tools and tactics for precision cuts, and safe patient removal. This multi-level approach ensures firefighters are prepared for everything from simple incidents to high-complexity rescues.

Great job to the Ridgefield Park FD for committing to the full program and raising the bar for technical rescue readiness.

Born from the legacy of “Black Sunday” and inspired by the resilience of the FDNY, the Phoenix Escape System stands as a symbol of survival and innovation. On January 23, 2005, six firefighters were forced to jump from a fifth-story window in the Bronx—an incident that forever changed how we think about personal escape systems.

Built by firefighters, for firefighters, the Phoenix System is engineered for performance when it matters most. It combines the lightweight strength of Sterling’s 6mm XTec Technora™ rope, the RPI 1/23 Hook, the Phoenix Descender, and the Tephra Carabiner—all designed for rapid deployment, intuitive control, and low-profile carry.
