We may be a day late, but our support for survivors remains strong, today and every day. đź’™
Denim Day was April 29, and at the Center for Evaluation and Counseling, we stand alongside our community in saying clearly: sexual assault is never the survivor’s fault, no matter what someone wears.

To survivors in our community: we believe you. You deserve safety, support, and healing. To allies: your compassion, listening, and action make a difference.

Support is available:
📞 National Sexual Assault Hotline: 800‑656‑HOPE (4673)
đź’¬ Chat: rainn.org
🤝 Local counseling and support services available through the Center for Evaluation and Counseling

You are not alone. We are here.

For too long, the story around children’s mental health has focused only on crisis. At CEC, we’ve spent more than 30 years showing what’s possible when children receive the right care, at the right time, from the right people.
Earlier this month, we were honored to welcome Rep. Analilia Mejia and Rep. Jamie Raskin to see our work in action and to have an honest conversation about the growing mental health needs of children and families. These challenges are real, and federal funding can mean the difference between getting care now or waiting far too long for support.
Every day, our team provides evidence‑based trauma therapy, trusted forensic evaluations, and prevention programs like Teen Talk and Healthy Boundaries, Healthy Minds, services designed to support children before a crisis becomes life‑altering. Our mission is simple: to shorten the distance between a child in pain and the care that can change their future.
We are grateful to the leaders, partners, and advocates who stand with us and recognize that investing in children’s mental health strengthens families and communities for generations to come.

Global Day of Unplugging '26

March 6-7, we’re joining GDU in choosing how we use our tech with intention, balance, and purpose. This isn’t about avoiding social media. It’s about reconnecting with what matters and inspiring others to do the same.

At our agency, we’re unplugging for things like:

📣 Share a photo, video, or reflection about your why. Tell us what you’re unplugging for and how you’re preparing to reset.

Our Story

Center for Evaluation and Counseling, Inc. (CEC) is a non-profit mental health center with an innovative approach and unmatched results. CEC offers mental health and supportive services to abused and neglected children and their families within our communities. CEC provides a child friendly environment where troubled minds are healed and hearts are mended. Our services include individual and family counseling as well as therapeutic supervised visitation. The goals of the services are to reduce the likelihood of future abuse and neglect, to strengthen family functioning in order to preserve the unity of the family and to reduce or avoid separations wherever possible. The single greatest predictor of how well a child will recover is the support and understanding that a parent/caregiver can give. A child’s life may be altered by abuse, but it is not defined by abuse. CEC inspires confidence and respect as a provider of comprehensive behavioral healthcare to the children and families we serve.

CEC serves the children, our most vulnerable population and helping to meet their basic needs. Many abused and neglected children often go without having their basic needs met. Their needs can be physical in terms of housing, food, medical care, and education. Additionally, children have emotional needs such as security, structure, and stability in order to safely grow and develop. We offer Trauma-Informed care in order for children to heal from the physical and emotional wounds. For caregivers, CEC teaches parenting skills, life skills, and social skills combined with supportive therapeutic services. CEC is an advocate for children and their families. Trauma experienced in one generation of a family can affect generations to come. CEC has seen how unresolved traumas from one’s past heavily influences a person’s present.

CEC also offers services to high risk and/or court-involved juveniles ages 12-18 in Morris County. We accept referrals to this program through the Superior Court, Family Division, Morris County Probation, the Juvenile Conference Committee (JCC), schools, and other service providers. This service is offered free of charge to juveniles and their families in Morris County The following psychoeducational group are offered: anger management, conflict resolution, coping skills, healthy choices, job skills, life skills, and positive decision making. CEC wants parents to be involved as parent participation is essential to children and youth’s success.
