Dr. Nicholas' MISSION of the MONTH: Hypersensitive Discomfort

Why do some things negatively affect your sensory comfort when other people are completely unphased by the same stimulus? For example:

Does the tag at the back of your shirt send you frantically scratching?
Does the sound of someone chewing ice cubes make you cringe?
Does the feel of a mushroom on your tongue turn your stomach?

Similar to his successful experiments to prevent "brain freezes" and motion sickness, Dr. Nicholas will be asking all interested patients to participate in investigating whether we can reduce sensory triggers through adjustment.
