Eligibility Criteria – The following criteria are required of all applicants regardless of whether you received the loan in the past. All criteria must be met to be considered eligible for the loan. All applicants must be:

A citizen of the United States;

A student. Parent borrowers are not allowed to borrower on behalf of the child;

Enrolled on at least a half-time basis in a regionally accredited, not-for-profit, South Carolina based, public and private institutions offering graduate-level Master of Science (MSN) programs, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Ph.D., or other like programs that prepare individuals for faculty roles

Making satisfactory academic progress as determined by the institution;

Not in default on any other student loan obligation;

Committed to full-time or part-time faculty employment (1,000 hours annually) with a Qualifying Employer; and

Not incarcerated.

This BOLDTM Refinance Loan Program is part of South Carolina Student Loan Corporation's BOLDTM Career Pathways Nursing Faculty initiative promoting Better Outcomes, Less DebtTM

The BOLDTM Refinance Loan Program was established by South Carolina Student Loan Corporation (SCSLC) in partnership with employers to create a talent pipeline for employers to recruit and retain talent. In return for a borrower's committed term of employment, the BOLDTM Refinance Loan would be repaid in all or in part by the participating employer.

The Mary Black College of Nursing extends our deepest condolences to the family of Dr. Janell Green Smith - Janell is a former student of our program and we are devastated to hear of her passing - Janell was a light in this world and had such a bright future ahead of her. Please keep her family and friends in your thoughts and prayers. ❤️

The nursing community is mourning the loss of Dr. Janell Green Smith—a midwife, educator, and leader who dedicated her life to improving maternal care and supporting families through pregnancy and birth.

Dr. Green Smith passed away following complications after childbirth. Her passing has deeply impacted nurses, midwives, patients, and colleagues across the country.

As we honor her legacy, her loss is also renewing conversations nurses know too well—about maternal safety, postpartum care, and the importance of listening when something doesn’t feel right.

We hold her family, loved ones, and the communities she served in our hearts.

We are proud to celebrate and recognize our first cohort of students to graduate from our DNP Program this past Saturday. These students have poured their hearts into their projects and the program, and we are so proud of all they have accomplished.
