Stye on your eyelid? Here's what the internet gets wrong, and what actually helps. A stye is a bacterial infection of an eyelid gland, most commonly caused by Staphylococcus bacteria.
Despite what you may have seen online, there are some important do's and don'ts:
❌ Don't pop or squeeze it, this can spread the infection
❌ Don't use home remedies not recommended by a doctor
❌ Don't wear contact lenses
✅ Do apply a warm compress for 10-15 minutes, 3-4 times daily
✅ Do keep the area clean with gentle lid hygiene
✅ Do keep hands away from your eyes
✅ Contact your optometrist sooner rather than later
Some styes resolve on their own. If yours continues to worsen after 1-2 days, develops swelling or becomes painful, it's time to see your optometrist.
