We get it — it’s freezing outside and those big fluffy coats are tempting. But when it comes to car seats, bulky jackets and thick coats can actually put kids at risk.

Here’s why 👇
❄️ Puffy coats create extra space in the harness
❄️ In a crash, that padding compresses
❄️ Straps that felt “tight” suddenly aren’t

The safer move:
✔️ Buckle kids in snug without the bulky coat
✔️ Do the “pinch test” — no slack means you’re good
✔️ Then place the coat or a blanket over the harness

Cold kids = uncomfortable
Loose car seats = dangerous

Stay warm, stay safe, and make sure everyone arrives buckled up the right way. 🚓💙

We have an awesome new resource for SLPs and caregivers!

A new e-book, “Captain of My Voice”, is now available as a free download in our resource library on the Spero Stuttering website!

In this space-themed picture storybook, children connect their own experiences with vivid imagery and simple truths about stuttering.

The final lesson is one of self-acceptance, self-empowerment, and self-advocacy—because “My friends can wait. I’ve got something important to say.”

Find this new storybook in our Resource Library, under Clinical Resources:

Big thank you to author and Ally of Stuttering® Holly Cardinal, MS, CCC-SLP, and to Kate Bunton, PhD, CCC-SLP, from the University of Arizona, who provided editorial support.

The concept and core analogy were inspired by the work of J. Scott Yaruss, PhD, CCC-SLP, BCS-SCF, F-ASHA, also an Ally of Stuttering®. Illustrations created using Canva AI.

Autistic people can be: any color, any “look,” any emotion, any level of regulation- any of the things.

I think social media has helped people to understand this and look forward to more mainstream media expanding their presentation of Autism outside of “dysregulated white male” and “genius white male who is often dysregulated but rarely happy” ❤️❤️
