Up your game this season with a mechanics check and ergonomics screening with Dr. Johnston!

Your form imbalances might not be obvious until they cause a disruptive physical problem. Some are innocuous, but some lead to diminished power and potential injury. Here are some common physical limitations:

•Reduced neck rotation can make it difficult to keep your eye on the ball during the swing.

•Insufficient trunk strength interferes with your ability to transfer strength from your lower body to upper body. Proper spine angle will also not be maintained during your swing.

•Reduced range of hip motion leads to compromised swing patterns and lower-back pain.

•Weak trunk rotation limits shoulder turn, causing poor sequencing between your hips and trunk, resulting in an alteration of the swing plane and potentially causing back pain.

•Insufficient shoulder strength, especially in the rotator cuff, leads to poor deceleration and club control.

Many players associate these issues as a product of sport, resorting to anti-inflammatory medication and other quick-fix alternatives. These may temporarily reduce pain, but rarely solve the underlying problem.
