What a long 22 hour night. Baby number 5 for this family perplexed me. I thought it was going to go so fast but I was wrong. I gotta say, at birth, when the puzzle was revealed- it totally made sense. What I thought were suture lines was actually eyebrows and little sq**rt had a teeny tiny cord. Mom was a trooper and her kids who observed were so cute. Dad caught the baby and moved so quick. I’m quite proud of all of them.

Declan Theodore has a pretty special birth story. If you’re a birth worker, I'm sure you've guessed by where babe's feet are in this photo, but Declan was born breech! His parents pivoted from a planned home birth to WA hotel birth when little Declan was determined to stay breech.

His mama labored beautifully, & this sweet boy was welcomed into the world with the HazelTree team & the lovely Juniper Midwifery as witnesses. Such a great testament to as Declan’s birth was truly safe & textbook.

He is adored by his family, especially his older brother & it was such a joy to walk this journey alongside this wonderful family✨

Just out of curiosity…
How many of you were put on hormonal birth control as teenagers for random things that had nothing to do with preventing pregnancy?

Acne? Try the pill.
Cramps? Try the pill.
Irregular cycles? Try the pill.

Now we’re hearing it’s classified as a Class 1 carcinogen.
Interesting enough The IVF industry is worth $50 billion.
Anyone else on this rabbit trail?

The membrane sweep is done to encourage labor to come! Your provider GETS YOUR CONSENT before inserting a gloved finger into the cervix and separates the amniotic membranes from the uterus which- promotes prostaglandins!

Prostaglandins help ripen the cervix to dilate and thin so that baby can come through. This should only be done with mom and midwife comfort, usually on an overdue baby. What is a stretch and sweep? Same idea but we will pull the cervix at the same time to open it a bit more. It’s not always comfy but it’s much less intervention than some other measures. The key is consent. If this is ever done without consent it’s obstetrical r**e. Pc: American journal of obstetrics and gynecology

I just had a dream that I gave a c-section to the doula at a birth. My mind is wild sometimes

What a magical way to spend Christmas! 🎄❤️
As a student midwife, I had the incredible privilege of attending a peaceful home water birth on Christmas morning. I got the call Christmas Eve around 10pm and headed out into the quiet night—driving through rural Idaho with deer and wildlife crossing the road under the stars. It felt like the perfect prelude to something special.
When I arrived, I joined forces with the amazing .just.alicia (an Idaho midwife I truly admire)and (the other student I work with)Mom was laboring beautifully under the soft glow of Christmas lights, supported every step by her loving husband.
At exactly 3am, sweet baby girl Lucy Joy made her entrance into the world—in the water, calm and wide-eyed. She didn’t cry at all; she just gazed around the room in pure awe, taking it all in. It took some gentle encouragement from Alicia and me to remind her to take those first breaths—she finally did, with the most adorable “glare” like she was mildly annoyed we were interrupting her wonder! 😍 No dramatic cries, just peaceful, steady breathing.
Mom was an absolute powerhouse, and Dad beamed with pride as they welcomed their perfect Christmas gift. Watching them snuggle up in bed with their newest bundle was just the sweetest.
Home birth magic at its finest—grateful to be part of such a sacred moment. Welcome to the world, little Lucy Joy! 🌟

This year has been filled with an abundance of positive experiences, and I am deeply grateful for each one. One of the highlights has been working with a new preceptor, which has been a valuable learning experience. I have also appreciated the opportunity to work alongside other midwives, who share my passion for supporting families during the birth process. On a personal level, I am thankful for the love and support of my family, who have been my rock during difficult times. My friendships have also been a source of comfort and strength. As I reflect on my role as a student midwife, I am filled with gratitude for the privilege of being present in the birth spaces of families as they welcome new life into their worlds.

Here is my cutest turkey of my clan. Friendly reminder to all to drive safe this holiday and if you plan on conceiving a turkey of your own- you would be due early September
