The Senior Scientific Assistant works alongside the project Principal Investigator (PI) on National
Institutes of Health (NIH) and industry funded research grants involving multiple performance sites and
community partners. The majority of duties will be focused on studies investigating experimental 1)
technology, 2) behavioral, and 3) pharmaceutical interventions for substance use disorders and related
health problems (e.g., infectious disease) within the Analytics and PsychoPharmacology Laboratory
(APPL) at the Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine, Washington State University.
The Senior Scientific Assistant performs human subjects research including the design of research
approaches and identifying and defining research problems, consenting and interacting with participants,
collect, analyze and interpret research data, ensure quality control, make improvement to techniques and
interpretation, deposit data into secure NIH databases, prepare journal publications and progress reports,
direct daily laboratory operations, construct and review study protocols, IRB documents, measures,
electronic data capture systems, and other documentation necessary for studies, and conduct general
laboratory organization. This position requires close collaboration with both the NIH and an industry
partners in the development of novel technologies and interventions and will be responsible for at least
two clinical trials.
