When an exhausted mom desperately reaches out, because her baby isn’t sleeping independently, and she has a toddler, and a husband who works 24 hour shifts…and she’s done all the things; lactation, oral revision, feeding therapy, pediatrician work up, swaddling, not swaddling, taking shifts with her partner, etc. And after almost 4 months of holding their baby all night just so he can sleep, they decided it was time to ask for help.
She went to her local neighborhood mom’s group on Facebook, and heard from other moms in her area who told her to get an overnight doula. A few comments mentioned my name specifically (that always feels so good!). As if it were meant to be, I had just finished up a contract, and had room in my schedule for her. The next night I spent 10 hours in their guest bedroom, with all the supplies I would need for my shift. They were not kidding! This kiddo was a pro. All my tricks were not working on him. So I decided to observe him, and come up with a different game plan for night two. We tweaked a few things, and the next night, he started to relax into a new routine. With a detailed description of what I did that worked, they went solo on night three. The text I received in the morning was confirmation that we were on the right track! Night four was last night. He slept independently in his bassinet almost the entire night. I even managed to snag about 2 hours of sleep. I’m back again tomorrow night, and I’m sure I’ve just worked myself out of a job 😅. That’s the goal though, right? I seriously love what I do…these parents have gotten much needed uninterrupted sleep, while they knew their baby was being cared for just down the hall. I’m so happy they reached out!
