β€œDon’t leave before the miracle happens.” At a time when I felt lostβ€”holding a degree I couldn’t utilize, without a driver’s license, burdened by debt, and miles away from my familyβ€”I stepped into an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. There, I discovered a community that taught me how to embrace life, one day at a time. Today, I proudly celebrate 14 years of sobriety.

The remnants of my past may have faded, but they remain etched in my memory. I strive to remain present, practice acceptance, and actively participate in meetings while supporting others in their journeys. I never want to forget the consequences that await me should I choose to drink again.

I am profoundly grateful to those who paved the way for me and offered their love when I was unable to love myself.

1️⃣7️⃣ YEARS ago I was a hopeless drunk. I promise y’all my goal was not to become that way. In fact, I was surrounded by alcoholics, addicts and abuse my entire upbringing and I was determined to never to be like that. Self reliance led me down the same path of destruction and I remember my last day drinking like it was yesterday. I was broken, ashamed and hopeless.

Thankfully, God had different plans for how my story would end.

I am grateful for the medical detox and treatment I received because I couldn’t stop on my own. God knows I tried. I am grateful for all of the people that helped me get sober because I couldn’t have done it on my own. I am grateful for the heartache I have endured because it grew my faith and taught me to rely on God, not myself. I am especially grateful for the hope, purpose and joy that has been restored in my life today. It serves as a daily reminder to NEVER FORGET WHERE I CAME FROM.

I would like to dedicate this birthday celebration to my father. You see, he too was a hopeless drunk that was able to experience God’s amazing grace and eventually show me there was an β€œeasier and softer” way in recovery. He loved me so much that he was willing to risk losing me in order to help save my life by creating the intervention. His consistent reminder to finish the race well and keep my eyes on Jesus has saved me from returning to the bottle that almost killed me more times than I can count.

I pray that I can help half the amount of people find the miracle of recovery the way my father has. There is no place I’d rather celebrate this special day than at Spokane Falls Recovery Center… where the brave individuals are suiting up to fight for their lives and find the miracle of recovery themselves! πŸ™πŸ«ΆπŸ»πŸ™
