❤️ American Heart Month 2026 ❤️
February 1-28
Let’s take a moment to honor our hearts — and recommit to caring for them.

💡 Why it matters:
Heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. It doesn’t discriminate by age or gender. But many of its risk factors—poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, stress, smoking, and uncontrolled blood pressure—are things we can influence.

🔍 This year, let’s focus on small steps that make a big difference:

Move more every day — even simple walks help

Choose whole, plant-forward foods

Prioritize sleep and stress management

Know your numbers: track blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar

Learn CPR — you never know when knowledge could save a life

💬 of the Movement:
Share your heart health story, a tip you’ve found helpful, or why this day matters to you. Use , , and so we can raise awareness together.

🌍 Let’s make a promise — not just for today, but beyond — to listen to our hearts, protect them, and inspire others to do the same.

Because when we look after our hearts, we’re looking after our lives. ❤️

🖤 Black History Month – February 2025

This month, we honor the legacy, resilience, and brilliance of Black history—past, present, and future. ✊🏽
From the ancestors who paved the way to the dreamers, healers, and builders shaping today’s communities, we celebrate the power of faith, family, and freedom woven into every story.

Black History Month is not just about remembering where we’ve been—it’s about recognizing the beauty of who we are and the hope of where we’re going. Let’s keep lifting one another, telling our truths, and building bridges of love that last for generations. 🕊️

BIG ANNOUNCEMENT!

THE GIRL GET DOULA IS IN MOTION!

Dear Community,

I am truly grateful for this moment.
For the past three years, we’ve been documenting our journey—one rooted in love, resistance, and collective care. What began with the Birth Equity Project has grown into something bigger than I could have ever imagined.

I am in complete awe. No matter where your part of this journey began or ended, please know this: I could have never done this without every single person who showed up, believed, supported, and held us through.

I can never repay the beautiful Black people and allies who have been part of this movement—but I will always honor you.
Today, I’m proud to share the trailer for Girl Get a Doula.

This is our story. Our work. Our love letter to Black birth, community, and liberation.

Amaya Hamm's Story:

With my fourth baby, my OB did not listen to my concerns about my blood pressure, and after being dismissed multiple times, I began to doubt myself and minimize what I was feeling. Having a doula had a powerful impact because she listened to me, believed me, and helped me trust my own instincts again. She advocated for me when I no longer had the words or strength to speak up for myself, and she helped me recognize that what I was experiencing was not normal and needed urgent attention. Because of her support, I pushed for care and had to rush to have my baby after being diagnosed with preeclampsia. I truly believe that if it had not been for her, I might have ignored my symptoms longer and my life could have been in danger.

Postpartum was also extremely difficult, and the impact of having a doula continued even after the birth. I was still struggling with my blood pressure, breastfeeding was hard, and I felt deeply isolated and overwhelmed. My doula showed up to my home to care for me, check on me, and make sure I was not carrying everything alone. She supported me emotionally and practically, and she reminded me that I mattered too, not just the baby. Having her consistent presence made me feel safer, more supported, and less alone during a time that could have broken me. Because of my doula, I felt protected, heard, and cared for, and that made all the difference in my recovery and overall experience.

Stories like this show why doula support and maternal funding save lives—and why it matters now, as Washington State Congress considers cutting $9 million from maternal health funding.

If you are a mother or a doula in Washington State and feel comfortable sharing your experience, your story can help protect access to care and ensure families are heard.
