                                            EMDR? CBT? COD? Alphabet soup to most. Here at Beyond Behavioral Health ~ We want you to be well informed. 
Here is a break down of common abbreviations in behavioral healthcare.
1. Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing - EMDR. Fantastic for overcoming long term trauma.
2. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - DBT. Evidence-based mental health therapeutic modality. Effective for learning new skills to improve mindfulness and emotional regulation.
3. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy - CBT. The most commonly used evidence-based mental health modality. Structured, goal oriented therapy focused on the relationship between thoughts, feelings, and actions.
4. Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker - LICSW. Washington State Department of Health credential that can be used to perform mental health therapy.
5. Substance Use Disorder Professional - SUDP. Washington State Department of Health credential that is used to perform substance use disorder assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. 
6. Cooccurring Disorder - COD. A cooccurring disorder is an individual diagnosed with both mental health and addiction disorders taking place at the same time. For example someone who has Major Depressive Disorder (Depression) and Alcohol Use Disorder (Chronic Alcoholism).
7. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder - PTSD. Exposure to severe trauma that leads to long term behavioral formations such as severe panic, crippling anxiety, and social isolation. Some people even experience hallucinations and flash-backs.
