This year, Joya will serve over 900 children across the Spokane area—each one with unique needs, goals, and potential. At Joya, we make a promise: to be here for all families, no matter their financial situation. And thanks to your support, we keep that promise every single day. Hearts of Joya ensures that every child receives world-class care and the chance to thrive—and we don’t treat anyone differently because of how – or if – they pay. Continuing on with PT month, meet Cori Lewis:

I’ve been a pediatric physical therapist at Joya for 2 years, and I love having the opportunity to work with young children every day. I’m especially passionate about supporting children with genetic and neurologic diagnoses, and I feel so grateful to play a role in their growth and progress. Outside of work you’ll usually find me enjoying the outdoors—whether learning winter sports, running, or going for a long hike.

10/15/2025

Hearts of Joya is our annual celebration of hope, potential, and the generous hearts who make it all possible. At Joya, we believe every child deserves the chance to thrive. Thanks to YOU - our donors, partners, and champions - we provide world-class care, expert therapy, and joyful learning to children ages 0–5 with developmental delays and disabilities. No family is ever turned away due to cost. Your support fuels this promise. Together, we’re building brighter futures—one little heart at a time. Join us. Share the love. Be a heart of Joya. Donate today to help us raise $90,000 by December 2 to support our mission!

Meet Miranda Frederick:

I have been a PT for 6 years and have been lucky enough to spend all 6 of those years at Joya.

One of my favorite parts of working at Joya and with the 0-3 age group is the lasting relationships you build with families as you help their children reach their goals. I love that even after kiddos turn 3 parents are still sending photos of all the amazing and awesome things their tiny humans are achieving. There is nothing better than the pride on a child’s face and their parents face when they master a skill they have been working so hard on.

Outside of work I love getting to spend time with friends and family. Some of my favorite things are going to Zag games with my husband, a 5 am spin class, a good book, a big cup of coffee and a warm cookie.

Meet Sarah Nicolarsen:

I have worked at Joya 6.5 years and have been a pediatric PT for 20!

I love the moment when a child completes a ‘first’. Sharing that experience with a child and parent(s) brings on a sense of accomplishment for all of us and is a connection that we’ll forever share.

My husband, two daughters, and I went fly fishing for our first time this summer, but had to stop while a brown bear took over the river.

Meet Kristen Santos:

I have been a PT for over 6 years and have worked with young children ever since.

I love helping little ones meet their milestones, empowering parents to help their child, and bringing play to every day activities in the home or out in the community. I specifically love working with premature or medically complex infants and watching them grow while providing the support and education to help them thrive. I enjoy helping a child learn to explore their environment through movement and also can’t beat the baby snuggles and smiles every day at work.

Outside of working, I love to read books, enjoy pop culture and entertainment, watch sports specifically Bay Area sports teams, go on hikes/walks with my husband and dog and in the summer, you can find me at the lake or escaping to the beach when travelling.

It’s October and the beginning of Physical Therapy month! All month long, get to know our PTs. We’re kicking off with Ginette Kerkering:

I have been a PT for 31 years. 20 of those years have been here at Joya. I am currently serving as the Program Director but still get to play with the babies and toddlers when I do new child evaluations.

I love everything about being a PT for the 0-3 population! The kids are so fun and always amaze me with their drive to grow and develop despite challenges. Seeing a child complete a new skill for the first time, whether it is rolling, sitting, crawling or walking, is such an honor. I love spending time with families and working together to find ways for their child to explore the world.

In my free time, I love to hang out with my family, especially my two 20-something kids. Just like many PTs, I prefer activities where I am outside and moving such as running, hiking and cycling. I have two great dogs that get me outside daily. I am trying pottery as a “sit down” hobby this year and realizing that it is very hard but so fun.
