Our logo says "Improving Vision Through Therapy & Research". Our focus is people (often kids) whose eyes are not working together and this interferes with visually demanding tasks such as reading. Often reading problems (rightly or wrongly) are referred to as "dyslexia". We try to test everyone with the same battery of tests for eye coordination (binocularity). That has allowed some insight into t

he prevalence of intermittent central suppression in the population. It has also allowed diagnosis of binocularity problems that have been previously undiagnosed. If we find a binocularity problem, Dr. Hussey will often send a report outlining our findings and options for treatment. The choice to have treatment is always left to the patient or, with kids, left to the parents. Our office tries hard to not put patients at risk. When we see something that may improve understanding of these problems, we ask if including information from individual patients in a research paper is appropriate. In addition, we have participated in a national multi-center study through a College of Optometry.

Thanks for sticking with us through Small Business Month! Meet Erica, she is the Office Manager here and does all the hard billing to insurance companies and makes sure they pay. She has a lot of things that she enjoys doing here and about an equal amount that she doesn’t, which happens when you have been doing this as long as she has. 20+ years! Wow!

She enjoys helping patients select the perfect pair of glasses for them (and for herself), likes working with people, and running our Vision Therapy program. Her least favorite? She doesn’t like when people fail to show up for their appointments, training new employees or being short staffed. Not able to make it to your appointment? No problem, but please call ahead. Every missed appointment at any small business is one day closer to them closing their doors.

And now for Kimberly! She is our Assistant Manager who spends much of her time billing your insurance so you don't have to. She is probably the most handy person here, always ready to dig in to the next new gadget/instrument/software we acquire and is great at adjusting your glasses. Her favorite job here is being at the front desk billing insurance and greeting patients. Her least favorite job is training new employees how to adjust glasses. Tell her "thank you" for billing your insurance the next time you are in. 👓

Welcome back to our Small Business Appreciation Month, so glad to see you! Now I'd like you to meet Kelsey. She is most likely the voice you hear over the phone when you call (she is a serious quick draw with the phone!). Her favorite thing to do in her job?

Working with patients in Vision Therapy, especially with the kids. Her least favorite? Calling insurance companies (amen!). The biggest difference from her last clinic job to here? How well we get to know our patients and how many long time patients we have. We have many patients who have been with us since Dr. Lester was practice.

Thank you to all our patients who make this small business possible!

Happy Small Business Month! Stick with us this month to learn a little more about us, our business and the people who run it. First up: Dr. Hussey!

Dr. Hussey joined is father's practice as a doctor in 1975 and took it over as his own in the 1990's. For those of you who can do the math that is 50 years in practice. Wow! He is passionate about what he does and wants every patient to feel like a part of our family. His number one goal for eyes? Binocularity. And he'd love to talk your ear off about exactly what that means (and Erica will be there to interpret for you as needed).

Remember we can't do this small business thing without you! So call our office today and schedule your next appointment or come on in to pick out your next pair of glasses. Thank you for shopping small and shopping local!

Happy World Optometry Day! Yes, we have our very own day. Ever wonder the difference between an Optometrist (OD) and an Ophthalmologist (MD)? Both are "eye doctors", but in most cases an Optometrist would be considered your primary care eye doctor, just like your primary care physician, and Ophthalmologists would be the specialist doctor (or surgeon) you see when something very specific is going wrong. Just need a yearly check-up and glasses? Go see an Optometrist. Seeing flashes and floaters? Check with your Optometrist first and he will determine when and by who you need to be seen. Optometrists are the first line of defense in your eye health. Contact us today to make your next appointment!

Paying for this without insurance will cost about $650.00. No two orders are the same because no two people are the same. If you know how tall Kimberly is, you will appreciate how large this bin is. And we need help to fill it up. Our office has the pleasure of being a drop-off site for this years Union Gospel Mission Fall Food Drive! This is the primary way UGM fills their pantry for the year for all of the homeless men, women, and children they serve throughout the year. UGM's top needs: canned goods; dry goods (coffee, sugar, rice, cereal, pasta); condiments (mayo, ketchup, mustard, salad dressing, ranch seasoning, olive oil); snacks (chips, nuts, granola bars); paper goods and utensils. Bring your donations any time we are open, and don't forget your old glasses; UGM wants those too!
