The handprint wall at our Brush Prairie inpatient facility is far more than just a wall covered in handprints; it carries profound significance. 🫶

Each handprint along the wall symbolizes a client who successfully completed their journey at Daybreak. This wall serves as a powerful & positive reminder to both our staff and clients about the importance of treatment we offer.

These handprints represent healing, second chances, hope, and lives that have been saved.

In June, we recognize Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Month (PTSD). PTSD affects countless lives and is not limited to adults; it also impacts the lives of countless young individuals.

🔸 Approximately 5% of adolescents in the United States experience PTSD.
🔸 It is common for those living with PTSD to develop substance use disorder as a coping mechanism
🔸 Childhood trauma, such as abuse, neglect, or witnessing violence, can significantly increase the risk of developing PTSD later in life.

At Daybreak Youth Services, we are committed to empowering these young individuals through a trauma-informed approach, providing comprehensive care to address substance use, trauma, and more.

Our goal is to decrease the alarming statistics surrounding PTSD in youth by offering a safe and nurturing environment where they can heal, grow, and reclaim their lives. Together, we can rewrite their stories.

A group of our Brush Prairie staff and family members represented Daybreak in the 2023 Hazel Dell parade of the Bands this past month. 🥳

They decorated, representing Daybreak, and handed out candy along the parade route. It is estimated that there were more than 20,000 people in attendance at the parade, 4x the size of last year!

What a great time to connect with our community.

✨ Daily Reminder: Take a Deep Breath ✨

It can be easy to forget the power of simply pausing and inhaling deeply. Let the air fill your lungs, grounding yourself in the present moment.

Try this simple breathing exercise:

1️⃣ Find a comfortable position, either sitting or standing, and close your eyes if it feels comfortable.

2️⃣ Inhale deeply through your nose, allowing your belly to expand as you fill your lungs with fresh air. Count to four as you inhale.

3️⃣ Hold your breath for a moment, and then exhale slowly through your mouth. As you exhale, count to six, releasing any tension or stress.

4️⃣ Repeat this cycle for a few minutes, focusing on the sensation of your breath as it enters and leaves your body. Let go of any racing thoughts and simply be present with each breath.

Remember, you can always come back to this breathing exercise whenever you need a moment of calm and relaxation.
