Job Description
Riverside Recovery Center is an outpatient chemical dependency treatment agency with a progressive, encouraging and caring team environment. We provide advanced programs tailored to help each patient recover from substance abuse or addiction and put their lives back together. We directly address physical and psychological elements of chemical dependency, and the defeating beliefs that accompany addiction.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Medical Assistant provides direct care to patients with opioid use disorders and facilitates coordination of an interdisciplinary plan of care to guide patient progress toward achieving quality outcomes. The Medical Assistant provides clinical duties within the MA license scope of practice as directed by the facility provider in the office based opioid treatment (OBOT) program. S/he collaborates with OBOT team members and outside referral sites, works with DATA-waived providers treating patients, and with other addiction and mental health programs and primary care providers in assisting patients in recovery and supporting their referral needs. The Medical Assistant works cooperatively and collaboratively with patient, families, health care providers, payers, managers, and network partners. The Medical Assistant provides point of contact and follow-up to patients served by these programs and coordinates assessments of potentially eligible persons and follow-up care as indicated by their assessment. The Medical Assistant provides warm-handoffs from the patient/client to other members of the treatment team or outside treatment agencies. The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the OBOT team and advocates for low barrier medication for persons with opioid use disorders.
PRINCIPAL TASKS
Clinical care: Preforms direct patient care to include vitals, UA collection, blood draws, fax prescriptions and coordination of care.
Using standardized protocols bring concerns to attention of medical provider in timely manner
Review initial documents, consents/treatment agreements with patients and their significant others as indicated, obtain signatures, provide copies to patients
Use Washington State Prescription Drug Monitoring Program database
Participate in ongoing reviews and/or revisions of patient’s plan of care with the OBOT team as needed to address patient needs. Assess need for ancillary services and ensure care is integrated across OBOT, counseling, mental health and primary care needs
Monitor urine toxicology screens, routine labs, medication refills and pill counts.
Follow State and Federal guidelines in providing care to opioid dependent patients under licensed prescribing medical providers and pharmacies
Link patients to other treatment staff and/or community services including addiction, mental health and primary care as needed
Develop rapport and provide consultation and emotional support to patients and their families
Ensure that quality of care and documentation meets all regulatory requirements
Maintain accurate database tracking as required by Hub and Spoke project and provide timely data to Hub on monthly basis
Attend “SMART, Hub and Spoke” meetings and trainings and serve as the Hub and Spoke navigator for Riverside Recovery Center, collaborating with other treatment agencies within the program
