Future nurses are getting an inside look at health care careers at WSU College of Nursing.

In recent weeks we welcomed visiting students from Iwate Prefecture in Japan, HOSA, Pasco Orion High School, and the Elma School District. Each group toured our simulation labs, met faculty and students, and explored pathways into nursing and health care careers.

Great to see the next generation of nurses taking their first steps.

A new school-based clinic is now open at Logan Elementary in Spokane, bringing primary care closer to where families live and children learn.

“We really wanted to make it convenient and easy for families to keep their kids in school as well as access to services simple,” said WSU College of Nursing Dean Anne Mason.

The Logan Family Clinic is staffed by students and faculty from WSU Health which includes WSU Colleges of Nursing, Medicine, and Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. WSU College of Nursing’s Dr. Sarah Fincham will be one of the care providers serving patients at the clinic.

Earlier this week, Dean Anne Mason and Dr. Christi Brumley met with Kim Jorgensen, BSN ’99 alum and Chief Nursing Officer at Kootenai Health, to connect on workforce development, research partnerships tied to Magnet designation, and evidence based practice.

Cougar pride runs strong: 4% of Kootenai’s nurses are Coug Nurses, and WSU is the only Washington-based school with clinical rotations there.
