Fun fact about Leigh (me).

My husband and I love to collect original art. We’ve acquired quite an impressive collection over the last 25 years and one of our favorite pieces is our Antique Box Bed.

We purchased this bed about 20 years ago by auction when my husband was going through chemotherapy. He really wanted sensory deprivation when he was recovering from each chemo treatment. We waited 8 months for it to come from China to import on container ship and it now proudly serves as the statement piece in our guest bedroom.

Chinese Wedding Beds were carved throughout different dynasties by a selected woodworker in a bride’s family. The bed has an offering porch because the new couple was to spend days after their nuptials getting pregnant so the family delivered their food and waited on them during that time.

Our bed came from approximately 1880, in the Qing Dynasty and was probably built for a mid level military official. Inside the bed and on the offering porch there are signatures from various original family members, and the well wishes and stories are told in 24kt gold on each panel. There are no nails or hardware - each piece is hand carved and put together by individual joints. It really is a jaw dropping piece and the fact that it’s sturdy and functional in 2025 is something we treasure. The best thing for me is when my mama comes to stay with us - she sleeps like royalty. 👑

Box beds come from many different nations and cultures, all with amazing histories. We were blessed to get the winning bid for this one and it will be handed down in our family to our oldest daughter, like tradition suggests.

This beauty comes to see me every other month and we rotate between hydration and exfoliation in her professional anti-aging treatment plan. Her skin gets red very easily and we’ve evened soo much out, improving texture and brightness. Minimizing fine lines and just creating an overall more rejuvenated appearance.
