We also touched on what continues to make Riverview an amazing community for our residents, such as our pool, woodshop, walking trails, countless activities, and the fact that we are a non-profit with the wellness of the residents at the forefront of everything we do.

Thank you to everyone who joined us! Home prices start at $345,000. If you would like to join the next presentation on February 11th, please call us at 509-482-9588!

๐ŸŒŸ Riverview Mentioned in The Spokesman-Review! ๐Ÿ“ฐ

Our new upcoming expansions were mentioned in Sunday's issue of the Spokesman, the excerpt of which can be read below:

-

A sprawling 35-acre retirement community along the banks of the Spokane river, located northeast of Avista Corp. headquarters, will soon see major changes.

Owners of the Riverview Retirement Community are planning two major expansions that will cost more than $50 million, according to a construction permit application submitted to the city of Spokane.

Application documents show plans for a 31-unit luxury condominium dubbed the Crest and an 81-unit independent living facility called the Heights.

Danie Monaghan, president and CEO of the Riverview operation, explained the significance of the expansion projects.

โ€œThe Heights and the Crest represent more than new buildings for Riverview โ€“ they represent the natural growth of a community that has always believed seniors deserve choice, dignity and a sense of belonging at every stage of life,โ€ Monaghan said. โ€œAs Spokaneโ€™s first senior living community, Riverview was built on the idea of serving older adults in a way that felt personal and forward-thinking, and this project continues that legacy in a new and meaningful way.โ€

Set to open in the fall of 2028, the Crest will feature condominium units that are roughly 1,400 to 1,700 square feet, according to its website. The three story structure will combine with new campus amenities including a bar and restaurant and outdoor lounge area.

The campus already has a coffee shop, community garden, lap swimming pool, fitness center, hot tub and a workshop for activities like woodworking.

Located at 1777 E. Upriver Drive, the Crest will be a roughly 20,000 square foot building and is estimated to cost about $10.4 million, application documents show.

Monaghan said the building is unique to the senior living market.

โ€œThe Crest is different by design. Itโ€™s for active, engaged seniors who want the freedom of an independent lifestyle paired with the comfort of knowing support, connection, and community are close at hand,โ€ she said. โ€œThe inspiration behind this project came from listening to our residents, to our families and to a new generation of seniors who want something modern, vibrant, and intentional without losing the warmth Riverview is known for.โ€

Set to break ground early this year, the Heights will stand four stories tall and have a footprint of roughly 40,000 square feet.

Located at 1841 E. Upriver Drive, the independent living facility will consist of units spanning about 900 to 1,400 square feet.

The Heights will be developed with new amenities including a rooftop patio and lounge, a dog park, a landscaped garden, an auditorium and classrooms.

The cost of construction is estimated at $42 million.

Bellevue-based Wattenbarger Architects designed both buildings. Spokane-based Yost-Gallagher Construction will build the Crest and Spokane-based Bouten Construction will construct the Heights.

๐ŸŽถ This month's Riverview Presents featured Dr. Paul Grove! ๐ŸŽธ

Kay Brightman began the show by announcing that Riverview Presents is doing great financially thanks to many generous donors, and has various programs lined up for each month through August! Kay also announced that she will be passing the torch of managing Riverview Presents over to Dee Morton, who is more than qualified to handle the task due to her extensive background in music, group management, and volunteering.

Dee's first task was introducing guitarist Dr. Paul Grove! Paul played several different pieces for us from North and South America, including "the Entertainer" by Scott Joplin, which most of us know as the song that the Icecream Trucks play! Check out these pictures and videos from the performance to see more. And thank you to Dr. Grove and his wife for joining us here at Riverview!

Here are some photos and videos from our New Yearโ€™s Eve celebrations! ๐ŸŽ‰

We kicked things off with a party in the Terrace Rec Room, where residents enjoyed nachos, snacks, and champagne. The evening ended with a special toast from Chaplain Yvette, who shared a few kind words to welcome the new year. ๐Ÿฅ‚

Afterwards, Village residents kept the celebration going in the Community Building with more games and a potluck. They stayed up late to watch the ball drop and count down to 2026 together! ๐ŸŽ†

Today marked the first day of training for our guests: the Spokane Fire Department! ๐Ÿš’

They are utilizing our decommissioned Care Center as a commercial building, which was used today for Search and Rescue training in the dark, smoky corridors before demolition starts. No actual fire will be used during these training drills! It is simply a unique opportunity for the fire department to use such a large building for training, as they do not get the opportunity to use buildings like this very often.

For more information, here is a snippet and link to the rest of our press release on the Riverview website:

"Riverview Retirement Community announced that it will begin preparations for a new independent Senior Living apartment complex, marking an exciting new chapter in the organizationโ€™s continued commitment to serving Spokane-area seniors. As part of the site preparation, the existing building โ€“ constructed in 1959 โ€“ will be decommissioned and demolished ahead of the new construction scheduled to begin in Spring 2026.

In exploring meaningful ways to utilize the building before demolition, Riverview Retirement Communityโ€™s Chief Operating Officer, Mike Schleigh, reached out to the Spokane Fire Department (SFD) to offer the space as a training ground for Commercial Fireground Operations. The SFD Training Captain and team welcomed the opportunity and expressed appreciation for the unique training environment!"

Last week, we had a wonderful jazz piano concert by Chris James Gootherts, who played an array of Christmas songs for our residents! Chris has played piano for Charles Schulz, creator of the Peanuts cartoons, and showed his amazing talent for us here at Riverview.

Check out these pictures and videos from the performance. And thank you to Chris for an awesome show!
