"It is said that women in labor leave their bodies and travel to the stars to collect the souls of their babies and return to this world together."

Dear dear mama,
You have created life,
pulled from the sacred ancestral thread
of our foremothers.

You have voyaged to the great beyond,
gone above the stars
and brought back with you
New Life
Kissed by the tender lips of the
Creator,
the scent of heaven still upon their cheeks
and their eyes glistening with stardust.

Dear dear mama
You have crossed the threshold,
Your heart burst wide open
to make room for a love so big
it could not be contained.

And so, dear mama
Let now your sisters journey to you
bearing gifts from the Earth
their song a balm for your tired soul.
Let weary muscles soften,
Heavy lids close,
Divine Milk flow.

Rest now, for you have earned it. //

//My life's calling is to NURTURE you in this way, darling...

The way the soil
and the sun
and the moon
and the summer rain
nurtures the seeds just below the surface.

The way we prepare our bodies for conception by nourishing them with good foods.

The way we create and nurture life with our bodies and our thoughts and our willingness to break generational cycles.

The way we nourish our children
with milk flowing from our breasts
and gentleness flowing from our hearts
and sometimes tears flowing from our eyes
as we marvel at the incredible
responsibility we have been granted in
raising the next generation.

You don't have to be a female/femme or have a uterus to take on a caregiving role.

You don't have to be a woman to feel like parenting the next generation is your heart's calling.

You don't have to call yourself mother to experience "the birth of a mother" known as matrescence.

You don't have to call yourself mama to be drowning in motherhood.

You don't have to gestate and deliver a baby to experience postpartum depression.

You don't have to have breasts or like the breasts you do have to feed your baby human milk.

You don't have to be a mom to be a matriarch and you don't have to be a parent to be a caregiver.

When I say M O T H E R, this is what I mean:

Mother* meaning nurturing, loving, guiding, parenting...

(Reluctantly or proudly) shouldering the roles and responsibilities of family M A T R I A R C H.

Mother* as in Gaia, Mother Earth, Mother God.

Mother* as in guided by gentleness, stillness, connection, rest, healing, growing, nature and that fierce but soft, feminine energy which all humans possess.

Mother* as in Creator and The Bringer of Life, The Holder of Hands, The Nourisher, The Glue that Holds the Family Together.

Mother* as in the verb, the act of mothering.

My role is to mother YOU...motherhood is a journey, I'd be honored to be your guide.

If a provider starts doubtful discussion about your hips or pelvis during prenatal appointments, might want to RUN. No seriously, think about a change. There is no evidence to support making any predictions or interventions based on the perceived "size" of a woman's hips, frame, or pelvis.

None.
Zip.
Zilch.

Unless a woman is *severely* malnourished (we're talking rickets), has sustained a complex pelvic injury, or has a significant deformity, her pelvis or hips should not enter the discussion of her "ability" to birth. That is, of course, unless the discussion is the provider exclaiming over just how ✨magnificent✨ it is that her pelvis moves and shifts at the end of pregnancy and all throughout labor to accommodate the birth of her perfectly sized baby through her perfectly sized body.

I recently heard a woman recounting that during birth the OB on call was predicting her "bony" pelvis wouldn't be able to birth her baby.
One: I should hope her pelvis is bony. It's LITERALLY MADE OF BONES.
Second: The pelvis moves, opens, and changes shape during birth. Its size can even be intentionally influenced by the mother, opening an additional 30% depending on her position!
Third: She went on to birth her baby through that bony pelvis just a few hours later.

If there are signs during labor or birth that there are positional issues or baby needs some adjustment or a nudge, there are lots of techniques to implement to help that baby through. Good doctors, midwives, and doulas know when to wait and when to suggest a position or two to help things along. But the vast majority of women will instinctively get into the best position in the moment when labor is not messed with and when her body has the physiological freedom to do so.

God didn't forget about your hips, sister. He designed every detail of birth, your bony pelvis included.

That's it. I GIVE UP, GUYS.

When your computer force restarts because you've been ignoring it for too long and it's just like

"biiish, I need to reset...you should do the same"

and then it closes the eleventy-billion tabs you had open and empties your cache so now you have to remember all the variations of your passwords that you created with special characters and numbers in 2005 to unlock the Fort Knox that is every account you've ever had.

The Birth of a Mother. The growing through and up and out in your Motherhood journey. The digging deep. The self-reflection, the cycle-breaking, the life-building, earth-shattering, bone-chilling, lifelong explosive transformation of Matrescence.

You become and acquaint and battle and grow into a whole new person.
That's the way it's supposed to be, my dear.
Ride the waves just as you did in labor...
For bringing a child into the world just might have been the easy part.
Now the real work begins.
It's time to rise up, Mama.
Welcome to the journey.
There are many wise sherpas along the way,
But you must embrace their guidance with grace.
You must trust your intuition.
You must tread carefully but confidently.
You must traverse your own path.
You must be reborn...
A Mother.

"The moment a child is born,
the mother is also born.
She never existed before.
The woman existed.
But the mother, never.
A mother is something absolutely new."

This is your reminder that your kids will remember that you said YES to a day at the beach.

They will remember the way you laughed when you got splashed unexpectedly.

No one...literally no one....will remember the way your belly looked in that suit (even if you did spend 30 minutes in front of the mirror in the Target dressing room wondering what people would think of the mom who had the audacity to wear a bikini with all that SKIN being skin on her body)

And even if someone does remember your skin being skin? Who cares?

What's more important- the opinion of a stranger or your children's memories of having a mom who got in the water and really truly saw the beauty in their childhood?

Seize the summer friend. BTS is only a short time away.

Ok, I'm not saying you WILL 100% hurt yourself if you extend that knee past your ankle or your form is a little off at the gym.

I'm just saying...be careful out there y'all because when that relaxin kicks in in the third trimester...things you have been doing your whole pregnancy might start to suddenly feel so much easier.

(Maybe you just improved all that much over the last few months of being dedicated to your prenatal fitness?!....or maybe that relaxin is making things feel all loosey-goosey and you might not even notice if you injure yourself.)

So like, maybe use a mirror during your online prenatal yoga class and keep that knee back, yeah?
