Holiday Tips and Challenges:
Are you ready for a day filled with simplicity and fun?
I have a few tips for you that may help you focus on just that, simplicity and fun!
I'm combining a few of them because I got behind on my daughter's wedding last weekend! It was absolutely beautiful and amazing, AND so glad it was last weekend!
First, let's remember what the reason for the season. It is so easy to get caught up in all of the hustle and bustle of shopping, baking and stress. That we forget about the people we love and the time of giving and serving each other. Hopefully, some of these tips will be helpful this holiday season.
1. Get rid of your scale! This is not the time to weigh yourself. It makes you feel bad and starts that downward spiral of guilt and shame.
Challenge: Have a plan in place and allow yourself to enjoy life, but not overindulge. How do you do that?
2. Focus on the company and the people you love. Challenge: Be present and enjoy conversations, not the food and what is on your plate. As you change your mindset and the gap from food to people, you will recognize that conversations will fill you up more than the food.
3. Water is essential and 65% of your body is made up of water.
Challenge: Always have your glass filled with water. Rather than filling up on empty calories of beverages save those real calories for real food. Then ask yourself is this worth it?
4. Reduce your list! How long is your daily to-do-list? Did you know that your brain works in 3's and most people can only do 3 things well in a single day? We may have 10 things on our list, but only get 3 things completely finished and 5 things started and the other 2 you are just thinking about. That just makes me tired! 😴
So then you go to bed feeling unaccomplished and like you failed. Challenge: Make a list of 3 things. If you get those 3 things done than add 3 more things.
5. Workouts! Anything is better than nothing. Do what you can, where you can, when you can! Challenge: Get your kids involved, turn on some music and start to dance, sing and clean. They will have a great time and you will be making wonderful memories!
6. Reduce holiday stress... by once again preparing ahead.
Challenge: Rather than going crazy wrapping presents, buy gift bags, purchase cookies rather than baking everything homemade. By preserving your time, you are preserving your energy.
7. Leave the perfectionist at home. Perfectionism is the heart of procrastination. It's never good enough, so you put it off.
Challenge: You are good enough and allow yourself to believe it!
8. Skimp on sugar not sleep. Adults need 8 hours of sleep a night, less than that, leaves you craving junk (sugar or salt), more emotional and more proned to stress. If a person sleeps less than 7 hours, they on average, consume more than 350-500 extra calories a day on sugary foods for quick unsustained energy.
Challenge: Turn off the tv, your computer and iPhone 2 hours before bed so your brain can begin to relax and produce melatonin for sleep.
I hope these tips and challenges were helpful, as you strive for success and greatness!
I want to wish you and your family a beautiful Christmas of giving and loving, peace and true joy!
Make it the best Christmas and New Year's ever!
Love,
Trisha
