We love that intensive therapy is more accessible, but please keep in mind that not all intensives are created equal. I highlighted a few key points in the slides 👆🏼 on what to look for when choosing an intensive. I hope you find this info helpful. Ultimately, you are the parent and its important for you to follow your instincts and do what feels right for your family
DMI is a very complex technique that takes practice, experience and a deep understanding of a child’s needs. Each child is very unique and will require a personalized treatment plan. For a therapist to become more proficient in this technique, they should practice on a wide range of children with various abilities.
Introductory levels:
Level A- will learn 35 exercises.
level B- will have learned about 70 exercises.
level C- they will have learned 115 exercises and progressions that address all areas of the developmental sequence.
When booking a DMI intensive, find a therapist that is level C or higher. They will be able to provide your child with a more comprehensive experience, leading to better results.
I fully understand that the best way for a therapist to improve is through practice; nevertheless, a cash based intensive is NOT the time. They should wait until they are at least level C in DMI and have a deep understanding of a child’s unique needs before offering intensives and charging out of pocket rates.
I’m very supportive of all therapists, no matter where they are at in their journey. I am committed to helping them grow as practitioners. Above all, I am dedicated to prioritizing the well-being of the child and their family, always considering what is best for them. I know many families that are just starting out on this journey and are desperate for help. It breaks my heart to see these families get taken advantage of, spend thousands of dollars on an intensive, and not get the results they deserve
Families- Please do your research before booking an intensive, talk to other famileis about their experiences, join Facebook groups, etc.
