oatation therapy, also known as sensory deprivation, uses float pods/rooms to induce deep physical and mental relaxation for your mind and body. Floating provides our brains an opportunity to quiet down senses and gain focus. Your experience begins in a quiet area where you can take a few moments to sit, breathe deeply, and prepare for your float. You will continue to our state-of-the-art float room where you will shower and proceed to your customized floatation therapy session. You will effortlessly float as time dissipates along with stress, pain, and anxiety. After losing my husband and father of my children to cancer, my oldest son was having difficulty sleeping and I suggested he try to find something natural to help. He came across floatation therapy. We were determined to see if this remedy would help, but the closest center was more than an hour away. The experience was transcendent, and we never felt so relaxed! As we drove back, the long commute home set in. That is when we decided there must be more people who need this kind of relief from their stress and pain closer to their home and we can help them. At POM Float, our focus is your peace of mind.

I have been asked what the difference is between floating in nature and floating in a sensory deprivation tank. While they both provide great benefits there is a substantial difference in the environment.

There are a couple of terms for sensory deprivation such as floatation therapy or REST, Restricted Environmental Stimulation Therapy. REST, I believe is suitable because the tanks are designed to restrict external stimuli (light, sound, gravity, touch) to provide an environment which is conducive to meditation.

o No light: The tank is completely dark, so there is no visual input.
o No sound: It is soundproof, preventing sound from penetrating a space. Anti-vibration pad is below the tank to minimize vibrations from the floor.
o No gravity: Floating in a solution of water and over one thousand pounds of Epsom salt creates a sensation of zero gravity.
o No touch: The temperature of the solution is maintained between 93Β° to 95Β° mimicking typical external skin temperature, so it becomes undistinguishable and provides the sensation of floating.

If you prefer, most newer tanks have light and sound which are controllable throughout the session. It is about figuring out what works best for you in the tank to realize the many possible benefits of sensory deprivation. πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™

I often talk with customers about why they are coming in for a float and I am interested in how floatation therapy works for them as a one-time experience or as a regular practice for health. As a solitary event, it can provide immediate stress relief, deep relaxation, pain relief, and improved focus. Whereas a regular practice, can lead to aggregate health benefits such as long-term improvements in stress management, sleep quality, mental clarity, enriched emotional health, enhanced physical recovery (good for athletes and those with active lifestyles), heightened self-awareness, and can foster healthy habits and encourage general well-being.

Choosing whether a one-time experience or a regular practice depends on the individual’s goals and needs. One should consider whether they are looking for a quick fix for stress or a way to relax (a single float session) or if they are seeking long-term wellness benefits (regular float practice).

It is good to take note of how you feel before, during, and after your float sessions to determine what works best for you based on your needs and goals and modify your practice as needed.

We provide a place for individuals to experience floatation therapy and gain peace of mind.

Floatation therapy is a great experience to try to see if it works for you and typically takes more than one session. It is best to float two or three time over a short timeframe before deciding if it will be in your repertoire of natural treatments. Your first session most always is figuring out what works for you in the tank. On your second or third session, you will know what works best for you and be able to settle into your float with ease. The duration between floats varies based on each individual. I have had customers who float multiple times per week, others once per week, or once per month.

This video is a good explanation of how to settle into your float session.
