Rev. J. George Cohron, M.S.

Rev. J. George Cohron, M.S., 82, passed away April 28, 2026, receiving his heavenly reward and finishing his earthly race with the same faith and steadfastness that marked every day of his life. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, pastor and teacher, he spent more than 56 years preaching the Gospel, pastoring, evangelizing and investing in the lives of others with humility, conviction and a servant’s heart. He preached youth camps, revivals, children’s crusades and performed gospel magic shows. He was recognized for 50 years as an ordained minister of the UPCI a couple of years ago. Thousands came to faith through the impact of his ministry.

He earned a Bachelor's degree in Education and went on to complete a Master's degree in Psychology.

He was an avid skier, loved to hunt, fish and laugh! He was a masterful storyteller. A gift that made his sermons compelling! For several years he served as the Director for the TN District Retired Ministers of Zion. He resigned that role a month prior to passing.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse W. Cohron; his mother, Dovie Francis Cohron; and his brothers, the Rev. W.M. Cohron and the Rev. Wilgurn Lee Cohron. Also his brothers in love, Jim Forbush, Don Forbush and the Rev. Robert E. Forbush as well as his sister in love Ora Mae McQuaig and her husband Daran McQuaig, his neice Robyn Forbush and nephew Jimmy Forbush.

George is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Patricia Forbush Cohron, his faithful partner in life and in ministry. He is also survived by his daughters, Beverly McManus, PhD and Shawn Luman; and her husband, CSM(R) Kellyjack Luman, each of whom carry forward his example of faith, integrity and fortitude.

He was a proud grandfather to Kyle McManus, Myles Pope, and Megan Fletcher, Ed.S and her husband, Wesley Fletcher, MBA. His legacy continues through his great-grandchildren, Cayden and Amelia Fletcher, who brought him great joy.

He is also survived by his brother, Glyn Cohron, and his wife, Glenda.

George is also survived by his brother in love the Rev. Joseph W. Forbush and his wife Jo and several nieces and nephews who love and respect their Uncle George.

He is survived by his sisters in love, Derethia Forbush, Constance Forbush, Cheryl Cohron and Shirley Cohron.

In addition to his decades in ministry, George found deep purpose in the classroom. As a schoolteacher, he shaped young minds with patience, encouragement and a genuine love for learning. Whether behind a lectern or at a chalkboard, he lived out his calling to teach, guide and uplift. To his students, he was known as “Superman,” a nickname that began as a playful nod to his resemblance to the hero and endured because he lived up to it in meaningful ways.

Those who knew him will remember his laughter, storytelling, unwavering faith and the way he lived out the message he preached. He was steady, kind and faithful — a man who loved God, loved people and left every life he touched a little better.

His presence will be deeply missed, but his influence will live on in the generations who loved him and in the countless lives shaped by his ministry and teaching.

Funeral services for Rev. Cohron will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Memorial Park and Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.

Jane McQuiddy Longhurst

Jane Dale McQuiddy Rainey Longhurst has gone to be with the Lord as of April 20, 2026. Jane was born in Nashville on December 3, 1930, to David Lipscomb McQuiddy, Sr. and Virginia Dale Houston McQuiddy. She and her siblings, David and Ann, were very close and made lots of memories as they grew up. She spoke often of fond memories of her years at Stokes School, Woodmont School, Ward-Belmont, and Vanderbilt (where she joined the Tri Delta sorority), and the lifelong friends she made along the way.

Jane found her first vocational love in teaching 3rd grade. She met Bill Rainey while at Vanderbilt and they married in 1953. She continued teaching until they welcomed their first son, William Bruce Jr., in 1957. They soon moved to Atlanta, where son David McDonald was welcomed into the fold. Another opportunity led them to Albuquerque, where son John Houston Randolph completed the family circle.

The family returned to Nashville in 1963, where Jane stayed very busy raising three boys, enjoying civic activities, and beginning the restoration of Ewell Farm in Spring Hill, into which the family moved in 1967.

Jane began her studies in Interior Design at the O’More School of Design in Franklin, TN in 1974 and upon graduation began a twenty-year career doing something she loved. Some of her greatest accomplishments were restoring Rattle and Snap in Mt. Pleasant, the Belmont Administration Building, and the Fisk University Library Building.

Inspired by her hero, Cornelia Fort, in her late forties, Jane fulfilled a lifelong dream of becoming a pilot and celebrated that achievement by making her first solo flight on her fiftieth birthday.

Jane was also a trained coloratura soprano and sang in college productions and in the church choir. Her final stage performance was Madame Butterfly at TPAC in 1979.

A lifelong student, in 1989 she completed an Education for Ministry program at the School of Theology of the University of the South in Sewanee, Tennessee.

Jane married her beloved Bob Longhurst in 1991. The couple enjoyed three beautiful years traveling, building a gorgeous home and hosting many family events together until his untimely passing in 1994.

In 1999, Jane retired to Albuquerque where she stayed active in her church, in volunteer work, and in local and national political organizations for 13 years, after which Jane returned to Nashville to be closer to her family and many lifelong friends. While in New Mexico, she found a love of snow skiing in Santa Fe. The last time she hit the slopes she was just past her 80th birthday!

Beginning in 1991, her most cherished and beloved title became ‘Mimi’ to her grandchildren, a role that brought her immeasurable joy and filled her life with love.

Jane attended the Church of Christ as a child and the Episcopal church and Disciples of Christ as an adult and was always a very active member of each church she attended.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents David Lipscomb McQuiddy, Sr. and Virginia Dale Houston McQuiddy, her brother David Lipscomb McQuiddy Jr. and her sister Ann McQuiddy Hall, an infant daughter, son William Bruce Rainey Jr., granddaughter Patricia Burton Rainey, her first husband and father of her children William Bruce Rainey Sr., and her beloved husband Robert Longhurst.

She is survived by her sons David McDonald Rainey and John Houston Randolph Rainey, grandchildren Evelyn Dale Rainey, Erin Clayton Rainey, Gabriel Hoffman Rainey, and Alannah Hoffman Rainey, and many lifelong friends.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Spring Hill Memorial Park and Funeral Home. A celebration of Jane’s life will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. Following the service, Jane will be laid to rest at 1:45 p.m. at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please make donations to The Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee or St. Jude's Children’s Hospital.

Mary Mable Horton

Mary Mable Horton

October 29, 1951 - April 17, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved and beautiful mother, Mary Mable Horton. She was 74 years old. She passed away on April 17, 2026 at Williamson Medical Center after a long battle with a late stage diagnosed autoimmune disease. She had rapid kidney failure and started dialysis in September, 2025 during a 2 week hospital stay in Florence, Alabama. Afterwards she moved in with her daughter and son-in-law in Spring Hill, TN to be closer to family. After her move she had multiple hospital stays due to various issues and was finally diagnosed on April 1, 2026 with a very rare autoimmune disease called ANCA-Associated Vasculitis. Treatment started and she was doing really well for 2 weeks but then took a turn for the worse. The disease that had caused her kidney failure was attacking her lungs and there was nothing the doctors could do to save her.

Mary (known as Mable in her hometown) was born and grew up a country girl in Cypress Inn (Collinwood), TN, picking cotton in her daddy’s field at 4 years old. She had no running water, no HVAC, no TV and no indoor plumbing. But thankfully she did have a radio. She loved old country music, with her favorites being Merle Haggard and The Louvin Brothers. She also enjoyed and found much inspiration in contemporary christian music. She grew up with love and hard work where neighbors and family would come and stay for days on end. All her life, she cherished those days of living and growing up on her old home place. She worked hard in school and graduated Valedictorian of her class of 1969 with a 4.0 GPA. She was voted most likely to succeed with her ambition to be a Civil Rights Worker.

She married Bobby Mahon in 1970 and moved to Franklin, TN where they raised 2 daughters. After their divorce she resided in Muscle Shoals and Lexington, Alabama before her final move to Spring Hill, TN.

Mary is survived by her daughters, Dewanna Mahon (Clayton) Bierwert and Laura (Casey) Kinnan; granddaughters Annastasia (David) Cole, Rachel (Dexter) Daniels and Eden Jaggers; great-grandchildren Arris “Bubby” Daniels, Eleanor Cole and Ambrose Cole; beloved cat Elton; former husband and friend Keith Clark; and many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Lee Washington Horton and Mollie Evelyn Price Horton; brother Leslie Horton and wife Jean; brother Lester Horton and his wife Melba Jean; brother Dewey Horton and his wife Patricia; beloved pets Poncho, Lefty and Precious.

Mary was a devout Christian. She loved and trusted Jesus faithfully. She lived what she believed and never passed on a chance to help her neighbor. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It was one of her dreams to go to the temple which she was able to do in 2025.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 2:00 pm at Cromwell Crossroads Church, 1160 Bear Creek Rd, Collinwood, TN 38450. If anyone would like to wear purple that was Mary’s favorite color.

In lieu of flowers Mary wished for donations to be made to one of the following:

Richard "Dick" Gershom Cutter, III

Richard “Dick” Gershom Cutter III passed away on Good Friday, April 3, 2026, at the age of 79. He left this world with no pain shortly after doing what he loved; making plans to watch his grandchildren play softball.

Born in Aurora, Indiana, on December 1, 1946, to Richard “Bud” Cutter II and Jean Hayes Cutter, Dick was driven from the very beginning. He was a gifted multi-sport athlete, earning opportunities to play both college baseball and basketball, before ultimately choosing to focus on his education. He graduated from Ball State University and went on to earn his law degree from the University of Cincinnati—setting the foundation for a distinguished career as a corporate attorney.

His work took him all over the world, and he took pride not just in the deals he helped shape, but in the people he worked alongside. He was known to be cool under pressure, a trusted leader, a mentor, and a coach in every sense of the word.

However; for Dick, his greatest accomplishment was his family.

While working at General Electric in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, he met Helen Casey, who would become his wife of 30 years. Together, they built a life grounded in mutual respect, challenge, and deep companionship. She was both his greatest match and one of life’s greatest rewards.

He was a proud father of Todd, Rick, and Keith, whom he raised—at times on his own—with unwavering commitment, strength, and love. Later in life, through his marriage to Helen, he welcomed Eric and Joel into his life, treating them as his own and expanding what family meant in the best possible way.

To his grandchildren, he was everything. Their biggest fan, their constant presence, the one in the stands at every game, every event, every moment that mattered. He didn’t just show up—he made you feel like you were the most important person in the world.

Dick never stopped moving. He woke up early, made his lists, ran his errands, and kept going. He rode his bike for miles almost every day. He loved the game of golf and played it well—recording three hole-in-ones after the age of 70 and shooting a 74 at 78 years old.

He loved deeply and openly. He was funny, sharp, and full of life. He could be fiery and passionate, but just as quick to own it and make it right. He lived with intention—from the way he organized his day to the way he color-coordinated his clothes. He was a rock and a best friend.

When you look back at him, we hope you smile. Maybe you shed a tear—but more than anything, you remember the way he made you feel, because that’s the legacy he leaves behind.

A life fully lived. A man deeply loved. And a presence that will never be gone—only carried forward in all of us.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Helen Casey; his sons, Todd (Jade) Cutter, Rick (Autumn) Lumpkin, Keith (Alix) Cutter, Eric (Misi) Bongini, and Joel Bongini; his cherished grandchildren, Joey, Mia, Anna, Trevor, Joey, Ryan, Aurora, Hazel, and Wyatt; and one great-grandchild, Elora.

A memorial service will be held in Pittsfield, MA at a later date.
