SMUDGING: Whether you want to clear your space of stale energy and bring positive energies in to your space, or remove negative unwanted entities, smudging is a good place to begin. This practice goes back thousands of years and our ancestors used it for many healing, cleansing and ceremonial purposes. If you want to do just a Spring cleaning and remove stagnant energies, remove blockage from your life, sage can be used just like an incense by lighting it, putting out the flame, and allowing the smoke from the sage to move through each room, cleansing, and purifying the air and contents.

It is best to use some container held under the sage stick to catch the ashes as to not let them fall to the carpet or floor. In tradition, an abalone shell is used for this purpose and a feather to waft or move the smoke in a more efficient manner throughout the space. When smudging, it is often best to also burn a white candle, placed the candle at the center of the house or building to assist in mulching left over or lingering energies. Pinches of salts can be placed in corners of rooms or areas that may seem colder, warmer, darker, and more electric or have a different uneasy feeling to them to assist in removing the energy and after smudging, sparingly sprinkled around the property in a circle. A prayer, such as a house blessing prayer is also sometimes used to help cleanse a property. In some cases, sage is also used in a group and passed on from person to person, to say healing words for a loved one or heal the planet. Smudging is the process of removing the old and negative, and bringing in and allowing the positive to enter your life and surroundings.

In this magical class we will look at where they come from and how to use and apply them in our daily life to help us along our path.
