Did you know that approximately 110,000 people are diagnosed with oral, head, and neck cancer every year in the United States? Even more staggering is the fact that most cases are preventable. Awareness is key to prevention and early detection.
HPV (Human Papillomavirus) is playing a significant role in the rise of cancers affecting the oropharynx (tonsils and base of tongue), particularly among younger non-smokers. This underscores the importance of vaccination and regular screenings.
Know the signs: Keep an eye out for a sore in your mouth that doesnโt heal, persistent sore throat, lumps or patches in your mouth, trouble swallowing, changes in your voice, or a lump in your neck. Early detection saves lives.
Let's spread awareness, encourage screenings, and empower ourselves and our loved ones with knowledge. Together, we can make a difference in the fight against head and neck cancer. ๐ช
