Wise Move

Wise Move The nervous system tells us how to relieve pain and stress every day; you can learn its language Remember, this is for you and you will decide what is best.

As a physicist, Judo master, and mechanical engineer, Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais studied movement for most of his life, and in doing so developed the Feldenkrais Method®. As a result of our environment, we adopt physical and psychological patterns of behavior. These patterns are integrated into our nervous system, and sometimes result in dysfunction, creating limitations and pain throughout our system. This understanding of movement led Feldenkrais to develop an innovative method that can change patterns of dysfunction, release pain, and relieve emotional stress. It is practiced using two complementary forms:

Functional Integration®: A Functional Integration®, or FI, consists of gentle touch that guides your system into a new understanding of itself. This aspect of the method allows us to focus on your specific needs. It’s an individual experience to help people change patterns of dysfunction, relieve pain, and release emotional stress. Awareness Through Movement®: These classes are considered group lessons. However, because each person has had different life experiences, we consider each person unique. The movements conducted in class are very slow; you are only expected to do what is easy and comfortable. Resting, stopping, sleeping for short periods of time, and moving around when needed are as important as the movements themselves.

The secret to feeling good everywhere. At least it is for me and other people I know. You need to do it daily for a week or so as long as it feels good, then take a few days off and do it again. I like to lay a hand towel on the floor of the shower so my lower legs are on the towel. Then I turn on the water hitting my back keeping my mouth open slightly so the water goes away from my mouth. You can also try putting your palms on your cheeks, chin resting in your hands so that your more upright if that feels better. Same motion back and forth but you move your pelvis from side to side instead of pushing your elbows into the floor. Either way works great but they do give relief in different areas depending on which postion you choose.

How are you sitting or laying right now without moving. This is the position your nervous system picked as comfort. Have someone take a picture or write it down. Use this position another time and see if it still gives you comfort. If so use it again, if not see what it picks some other random moment. You dont want your brain picking whats right you want to notice how you naturally sit without thinking about it. Let me know how it goes.
This is the position my legs picked. What postion did your legs pick? Send me a photo of your legs resting. Use comfort postions over and over until they dont serve you anymore. All the best.

Your power lies in your ability to discern at the outset.
That's when choices and corrections can be made.
Most of us wait until it is too late.

Our Story

Wise Move was founded in 2013 by Linda and Alea Groshek. This partnership gathered a knowledge base from the Feldenkrais Institute of San Diego, Feldenkrais in Santa Fe, University of Michigan, and the Jeremy Krauss Approach in Germany for children with special needs. Their experience and shared knowledge gave them the perfect resources to open a Feldenkrais® practice in Michigan. Wise Move continues the work of Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais creator of the Feldenkrais Method®.
