☕ Coffee Talk this Sunday at 10 AM!
Bring your favorite mug — we’ll take care of the coffee.
Join us for a cozy morning of community connection, open Q&A with Doc, and a quick rundown of all the upcoming events happening at the practice. Whether you come every month or you’ve never joined before, you are always welcome.
A quick winter parking note:
Snow makes things… interesting. Please pull in the order you arrive.
• First car: pull all the way up the circle to where it meets the entrance drive.
• Everyone else: pull in right behind the car in front of you, leaving the straight entry/exit path open so we can all fit safely.
And if you’d rather not trek through the snow?
Honk for valet.
Seriously. Pull up to the front door and we’ll es**rt you up the walk like the winter royalty you are.
Come for the warmth, stay for the conversation. See you Sunday at 10!

💃❄️ Ballroom Beats Rx is ON tonight at 6:30!
We’re braving the cold and heating things up with a little dancing — come warm up and have some fun with us.
A quick note about parking:
The driveway is paved, but the parking area is not, so things may be a bit tricky. Please pull up as far as you can into the circle, right to where it meets the incoming driveway. Then just line up one car behind the other until we’re full.
We’ll need to leave in the order we arrived, so try to pull in close to the car in front of you while keeping the entry/exit path clear.
Thanks for rolling with the winter logistics — can’t wait to dance with you tonight! 💙

A large Lancet meta-analysis found that small increases in daily moderate-to-vigorous physical activity—such as just five extra minutes per day—could potentially prevent up to 10% of all deaths at the population level, especially among the least active adults. Likewise, reducing sedentary (sitting) time by about 30 minutes a day was associated with a meaningful reduction in mortality, showing that modest changes in movement and inactivity patterns could have significant public health benefits.

Dancing combines some of the best elements known to be associated with longevity: exercise, creativity, balance and social connection. You’re investing the same time as walking or other exercise activities but may be getting much more out of it.
In fact, one study found that people who danced frequently (more than once a week) had a 76 percent lower risk of dementia than those who did so rarely.

Perhaps not surprisingly, the scientists found that, for every cognitively challenging activity performed one day a week, there was an associated 7 percent reduction in dementia risk. The more often people tested their brains — such as with board games or crossword puzzles — the less likely they were to develop Alzheimer’s or vascular dementia.

But when it came to physical activity, one hobby stood out above the others after controlling for other lifestyle and health factors: Dancing.

The researchers, who published their findings in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2003, concluded that physical activities like swimming and walking also trended in the right direction but weren’t as profound as dancing. (Because people in the early stages of dementia may cut back on activities like dancing, the study was designed with a long period of observation to correct for this.)

Physical activity, especially aerobic exercise, in general is wonderful for our brain health. And this isn’t intended to knock walking: A small randomized controlled trial of walking versus ballroom dancing among older adults found both benefited memory and learning.

But combining physical activity with creativity and cognitive challenges may help protect the brain further. Dancing asks your brain to do several things at once: match a rhythm, remember steps (or quickly improvise some new ones), navigate space and perhaps even respond to a partner.

Everyone tells you to do puzzles or play an instrument to reduce the risk of dementia, but not a whole lot of people are talking about dancing. In one study,...

💃✨ Ready to move, laugh, and try something new?
Ballroom Beats Rx is happening this Thursday at 6:30 PM, and you’re invited to jump in — even if it’s your very first class.
We’re building on some fun skills we’ve been working on, but don’t worry… every class is taught to the people in the room. Whether you’re brand new or returning, you’ll learn something, get moving, and enjoy the energy of trying something new.
No partner needed. No experience required. Just a welcoming space to move, smile, and feel good.
Come join the fun this Thursday at 6:30. Your future self will be glad you did.
