Active listening is a cornerstone of trauma-informed care. When providers slow down, stay present, and really listen—without interrupting—they build trust. Validation, not just solutions, is key to helping people feel heard and respected. Credit: The Recovery Center USA.

Trauma-informed care takes sensory sensitivity into account. For many individuals, trauma can heighten reactivity to light, sound and physical surroundings. That’s why we focus on creating sensory-friendly environments—featuring quiet rooms, adjustable lighting and calming spaces—to support healing in a thoughtful and compassionate way. What is trauma-informed care? One of its core principles is empowerment through choice. In healthcare settings, offering patients options such as choosing therapy times or meals can help restore a sense of control and dignity. It’s more than a treatment model; it’s a mindset. What Is Trauma-Informed Care?

Trauma-informed care begins with the way we communicate. It means approaching patients and coworkers with empathy, compassion, and without judgment.

Instead of asking, “What’s wrong with you?” we ask, “What happened to you?” This simple shift acknowledges the impact of trauma and helps create safe, supportive environments for healing.

Shoutout to The Recovery Center USA for this powerful reminder. We'll be sharing trauma-informed care tips throughout the month—stay tuned!

Let’s talk about teens, summer and getting ready for school.

Our Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is here for teens ages 12–17 who are navigating mental health challenges, emotional regulation, grief, loss or co-occurring substance use. Group counseling does not require a prior inpatient stay.

Our summer IOP sessions focus on teaching coping skills, emotional regulation, anger management, communication, self-awareness and relationship-building. Our goal is to help teens head back to school with confidence.
