Just hanging out in Tummy Time while Mom gets adjusted, no big deal 💁♀️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We all know we’re supposed to do Tummy Time, but the range of reasons why is HUGE:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💪 Strengthens Muscles: When babies are placed on their stomachs, they use their neck, back, and arm muscles to lift their heads and explore their surroundings. This helps in building muscle strength, particularly in the neck and upper body.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🚘 Develops Motor Skills: Tummy time encourages babies to push up, roll over, and eventually crawl. These movements are essential for the development of gross motor skills and coordination.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👶 Prevents Flat Head Syndrome: Regular tummy time can help prevent flat spots from developing on the back of the baby’s head. It promotes a variety of positions for the baby’s head and reduces the risk of positional plagiocephaly.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
👀 Enhances Sensory and Cognitive Development: Being on their tummy allows babies to see the world from a different perspective. They can observe and interact with their environment, which stimulates their sensory and cognitive development.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💨 Aids Digestion and Reduces Discomfort: Tummy time can help alleviate gas and discomfort in infants, as the pressure on their abdomen can aid digestion and relieve trapped gas.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🚶♀️Prepares for Milestones: Tummy time is a precursor to important developmental milestones such as crawling, sitting up, and eventually walking. By practicing lifting their heads and pushing up on their arms during tummy time, babies strengthen the muscles needed for these activities.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🗓️ All of that from such a simple exercise! Remember, Tummy Time is best done in short durations until muscle strength and co-ordination can be developed! And if you need any help, our monthly Tummy Time Class is on the 3rd Wednesday of every month! PM for more details!
