It is with the heaviest of hearts that I announce the passing of my beautiful grandmother in law, Frances.

Nana was and is a fierce fighter and lover of family and faith. Although she lived life like a lion, she left like a lamb, peaceful and quiet. Attended by her loving granddaughter. Many of her family (including Dan) were able to be with her before her passing, reminding her of our love.

Nana would have been 98 in just a few short days.

We are missing you in person but you will always live in our hearts.

One time, during Covid lockdown, I got stuck in this elevator bay for a while…. My amazing client delivered on her hands and knees with her loving spouse advocating for her autonomy and me on the phone cheering them on I am still so proud of them. We’ve had another baby since then where we were all together and calm and supported without the stress of covid lockdowns and protocols. I love my clients so much and I am so grateful for the trust they put in me. They are always family. Always.

In around 76% of birthing people, a line — often purple (but it can also appear red or white on darker skin tones) — may rise up along the cleft as labour progresses. This phenomenon, more common in those who go into spontaneous labour, is thought to be linked to vasocongestion at the base of the sacrum.

While vaginal examinations remain a standard way to measure cervical dilation, they’re not always accurate and can feel intrusive for some during labour. Observing the purple line offers a potential alternative that respects the labouring person’s comfort.
