MEET OUR TEAM - JOLI

Hi! I’m Joli, The Painted Doula. I have been on the doula road since 2012 with a strong beginning as Kathleen Wilson’s first apprentice. Since then, I have co-authored and taught Rebel Birth Childbirth Education, mentored new and improving doulas, and empowered hundreds of families as they welcomed their babies. My current endeavor is midwifery school at the end of which (I joke) I will either be an awesome new midwife or a way overqualified doula! My favorite convergence of hobby and career is making creative placenta prints using any medium I can think of like fabric, glitter and epoxy.
In my free time, you can find me crocheting and crafting, playing board games, reading all the books and hanging out with my lovely husband and 2 daughters. Oh, and also loving on and talking to any creature I see, be it dog, bug, or reptile.

MEET OUR TEAM - ANNDEI

Hi friends! My name is Anndei and I am the gal behind Postpartum Beyond! I wear many hats but work under the umbrella of a postpartum doula. In addition, I’m also a newborn care specialist, pediatric sleep consultant, and postpartum nutrition specialist. I’m also an American Red Cross instructor and teach CPR and first aid. šŸ¤“

When I’m not supporting families, I like to spend my time hanging out with my kitties (Chester, Chelsea, and Charlie), tending to my garden, practicing yoga (I’m a registered teacher!), or baking!! I love experimenting with recipes and seeing what I can pull off.

I studied Human Development & Family Studies, Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, and Interpersonal Communication at the University of Houston, which gave me a strong foundation for the work I do today. Over the past decade, I’ve supported families in many ways, and my passion for postpartum care grew as I saw how sacred yet overlooked this time can be.

Postpartum is sensitive and fleeting- and it’s always an honor to walk alongside families as they navigate such a delicate season of life :-)

MEET OUR TEAM - SARA RENE

Hi! I’m a birth-obsessed, coffee-fueled mama of (soon to be) five, proudly serving families through Birth Love Doula Houston. With 10 years of experience as a registered nurse—and an even longer resume as a mom—I wear a lot of hats: doula, labor & delivery nurse, childbirth educator, and midwife assistant. Birth isn’t just my job, it’s my calling (and yes, my calendar revolves around due dates!).

My passion for birth work was sparked by my own experience with birth trauma. Since then, I’ve gone on to have empowering, positive births (including two at home!) and I’m on a mission to help others do the same—whether they’re birthing in a hospital or their living room.

When I’m not supporting families, I’m soaking up time with my husband Ivan and 8 amazing kids (4 mine, 4 bonus!), reading a good book, or cheering on Houston sports teams.

MEET OUR TEAM - SKYLAR

Before stepping into birthwork, Skylar spent years in the urgent care field, partly during the pandemic—an experience that gave them clinical insight but left them searching for something more purposeful and heart-centered. Becoming a Doula allowed them to hold space in a way that truly aligns with their values.

They're a proud parent to one incredible child, who has been their greatest teacher in navigating the highs and lows of life with love, grit, and humor. They're also deeply supported by their partner, who continuously encourages them to follow their passion and show up fully as their authentic self.
They also believe advocacy is inseparable from care—especially when it comes to trans and nonbinary rights. Their work is rooted in inclusivity, empathy, and creating safer spaces for all birthing bodies and families. Outside of birthwork, you can find them on the ice (yes, they love to skate!), getting crafty with art projects, or rolling on the mats with Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.

MEET OUR TEAM - FIONA

Hi, I’m Fiona — the birth doula behind Scarlet Stork Doula Services ā™„ļø

I’m DONA-trained and became an advanced certified doula through Kathleen’s Labor Enabler Apprenticeship. My path to birth work started back at UT Austin, where I explored a lot of different callings but kept coming back to what felt most like home: connection, compassion, and deep, purposeful care.

I do this work through the lens of social justice — because everyone deserves to feel supported, respected, and empowered in their birth.

When I’m not at a birth, you can find me reading a good novel, hiking a local trail, flowing through yoga, watching live music, or hunting for the best coffee shop in every city I visit. I live in Houston with my two beloved cats, my partner, and way too many books.

MEET OUR TEAM - MAX

1- I’m originally from the Pacific Northwest, and I don’t think any other soil will feel like home beneath my feet, and no other rivers will quench the thirst of my soul.
2- Anatomy isn’t my only nerdy fixation! You can also catch me playing Dungeons and Dragons, board games, or Magic the Gathering.
3- I co-founded a local scout group, volunteering with them and helping to build lasting friendships between families.
4- I visit Austin to advocate for my LGBTQIA+ community. Celebrating the same community at different events is its own act of rebellion in the current state of affairs. Education for, and about, our community is an important aspect of how I want to improve the world.
5- There are so many serious things going on in the world, I try to always make time to laugh and be goofy. This MUST include dad jokes for everything. Like the time my nibling got their Thing delivered to my house. What better way to communicate its arrival than a ridiculous photo opp? I also named the internet router at our office The PregNET. And I feel that’s glorious enough to share with the world!
6- I love to be outside! I always find a critter or cool natural thing to take pictures of. Like this baby Armadillo who was enjoying my back yard. I gave him a stern lecture on the importance of being afraid of humans. I think it stuck, I didn’t see him or his siblings again after that!
7- I entered the birth world as a ā€œGoat Herd Midwife,ā€ and quickly discovered that kids of both species come when they want. There’s no rushing in birth. Which is an excellent reminder to carry over into other areas of our lives.
8- Halloween is my favorite holiday. I love going to ā€œspookyā€ events and outings, but you still won’t catch me watching horror movies!
9- My house is full of love and chaos. Hungry teenagers, the cat flipping chairs, and dogs forcing me to sleep in the tiniest lil corner of my bed. You can always find a half finished project, or 5, and the laundry that never ends.
10- I love reading and will never stop learning. I tend to collect books, which means I’m always trying to reorganize them in the ā€œbestā€ possible way.

MEET OUR TEAM - KATHLEEN

Kathleen wears many hats—and most of them come with a birth story. She’s a founding member of TLC Doula Group, the powerhouse behind Labor Enablerā„¢ Doula Services, and co-owner of Rebel Birth Education and Resource Haven. A doula since 2003, Kathleen has trained, taught, and tenaciously supported countless families, all while building up the next generation of doulas through her Labor Enabler Doula Apprenticeship Program.
She’s at home in every birth setting—from hospital suites to home tubs—and works seamlessly with all types of providers to help her clients have the birth that’s right for them. Equal parts advocate, educator, and calm-in-the-storm, Kathleen brings heart, humor, and a deep well of wisdom to every birth she attends.
When she’s not welcoming babies, she’s wrangling her four incredible kids, cooking up something delicious, or traveling with her partner-in-life since 1997. A proud volunteer with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and I’ll Have What She’s Having, Kathleen says she’s one of the luckiest people in the world—and anyone who’s worked with her would probably agree.
