What are the best CPAP alternatives? Well, the best alternative is an Inspire Implant; in fact, the Adhere study found it was even more effective than CPAP.

In a recent issue of my newsletter, Inside Sleep (subscribe at the link in my bio), I discussed Vivos Therapeutics' newly FDA-approved oral appliance. That’s another possible option if you’re struggling with a CPAP machine.

For anything more specific, though, you’ll have to speak to your doctor. They’ll know your specific case better and will be able to provide you with more direct guidance.

I’ve always been a voracious reader and learner. Growing up poor, I think it was the best way for me to stand out in conversation and connect with others.

I couldn’t commiserate with classmates about family vacations, but I could impress in a discussion about Tolkien.

Eventually, though, that defense mechanism became less of a reaction to social exclusion and more of an intentional life skill. I realized that I felt confident when I was informed, and not only that, I actually just loved to learn.

That made me a better doctor in the long term. I care deeply about solving problems for my patients, so they can live healthier and happier lives. But to do that, I need knowledge and experience.

Now, if I’m uncertain about something, I don’t just sit and stew in my anxiety. I learn. I seek out the best possible solution, and it gives me the confidence to move forward.

Is there a correlation between hiatal hernia, deviated septum, and collapsed nasal valves? Not that I’m aware of! Nasal valve collapse and deviated septum can be correlated, and both are relatively common among snorers.

But I’m not sure about the hiatal hernia piece. If you know differently, let me know in the comments!
