This September, businesses across Houston are joining Texas Children’s to support children and teens with cancer through the Steering Hope campaign. 🚗🎗️

When you purchase a car, fill up your tank, or wash your vehicle at participating locations, a portion of proceeds will benefit Texas Children’s Cancer and Hematology Center—one of the nation’s largest and most respected centers for childhood cancer care and research.

No, Chiropractors can’t cure lazy eye.

Dr. Madhuri Chilakapati, one of our pediatric ophthalmologists, sets the record straight.

Strabismus (eye misalignment) happens when the eye muscles and brain don’t work together.
Amblyopia (the true “lazy eye”) develops when the brain ignores vision from one eye.

Neither condition can be fixed by spinal adjustments. Proven treatments include:
👓 Glasses (sometimes enough to straighten the eyes) 🩹 Patching or special eye drops for amblyopia ✂️ Eye muscle surgery for strabismus

The best outcomes happen with early evaluation by an eye doctor. Make an appointment today at the link:http://ms.spr.ly/6186seQ0Y

Ear candling might be trending online, but it won’t treat your child’s ear infections.

For many little ones—often around 1 to 2 years old—ear tubes can be a safe, effective solution when infections just won’t quit.

Here’s what to know from Dr. Joel W. Jones, pediatric ENT at Texas Children’s:
✅ Tubes are considered after persistent fluid or repeat infections ✅ The procedure is quick—just 5–10 minutes—with minimal sedation ✅ Tubes fall out naturally in 6–12 months ✅ Healthy habits and clearing mucus when sick may help, but some kids are simply more prone to infections

If your child’s ear infections keep coming back, talk to your pediatrician or an ENT about whether ear tubes might help. You can even make an appointment with Dr. Jones at the link: http://ms.spr.ly/6180skaku

It *does* matter whether you take your kids to the Emergency Center or Urgent Care.

Across Houston and Austin, we have 13 Urgent Care centers staffed with certified pediatric providers. They’re trained to diagnose and treat common and non-life-threatening health concerns, including sore throats, pink eye, allergic reactions, urinary tract infections and more. In most cases, we can treat and discharge patients in under an hour. ⏱️

Meanwhile, our Emergency Center has trauma docs available 24/7 ready to manage life-threatening situations. With a wide array of medications, lab services and advanced diagnostic imaging at their disposal, our EC can evaluate even the most complex conditions. Since patients are prioritized based on severity of illness or injury, if you come to the EC with a concern that isn’t life-threatening, you might not be seen as quickly as you’d hoped.

They’re already superheroes in our book.

We asked some of our pediatricians what superpower they would want and why. While they may not be able to fly or read minds, Texas Children’s pediatricians have been able to provide expert care for more than 30 million patients over the past 30 years, and we think that’s pretty super.

For the past 22 years, Dr. Rachel has been delivering exceptional pediatric care to children and families at our Ashford clinic.

But even before Dr. Rachel the foundation was laid by Dr. Ben Rosenthal, her dad, and his 3 brothers, Drs. Paul, Morris and Harry. They established our Ashford clinic and built its reputation for world-renowned care—a legacy Dr. Rachel proudly continues today. 🫶

To celebrate the 30th Anniversary of Texas Children’s Pediatrics, we caught up with Dr. Rachel to learn more about the clinic’s story, what brings her joy and her vision for the future of pediatrics.
