Surgery without incisions!

Orthopedic surgical technology continues to evolve. Recently, we were able to perform a knee surgery without incisions using new nanoscope technology.

The camera that we use is smaller than a pen!

This BRAVE patient was completely AWAKE and WATCHING the surgical procedure with only local anesthesia to numb the skin and soft tissue of the knee.

We had a complete view of the surfaces of this knee allowing us to treat some cartilage and meniscus injuries.

We can use this technology to see clearly in many joints, especially knees, shoulders, and ankles.

This technology may be especially useful in assessing healing of other procedures such as rotator cuff repairs, meniscus repairs, ACL and ligaments surgeries, and cartilage surgeries. It is also useful in patients that may not be able to obtain an MRI.

I was fortunate to spend time in Nashville with Dr. Byrd during my sports fellowship year. He is an amazing physician, teacher, mentor, and friend. The courses in Chicago are amazing for anyone wishing to learn hip arthroscopy from experienced and excellent surgeons.

Hip Arthroscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that is a powerful tool in the treatment of various hip disorders.

The most common disorders that can lead to surgical treatment are:

** Femoroacetabular impingement
** Labrum and cartilage injuries
** Loose bodies in the hip
** Gluteus medius and minimus tears
** Hamstring tears
** Snapping hip
** Trochanteric bursitis

If your is not improving, please seek treatment by a hip specialist to avoid further pain and possible damage.

If you are one of our Blue Cross Blue Shield patients, please read this explanation to learn more about the letter you received.

Sterling Ridge Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine’s (SROSM) Blue Cross Blue Shield Contract (BCBS) is provided by our relationship with Memorial Hermann.

Memorial Hermann and BCBS are fighting over money - https://www.memorialhermann.org/about-us/bcbstx-negotiations

Thus, BCBS terminated their contract with Memorial Hermann.

SROSM is stuck in the middle (BCBS sent letters to all of our BCBS patients saying that we won’t be covered in their plans).

We hope that Memorial Hermann and BCBS work out their differences, but if not, SROSM will apply for a separate contract with BCBS.

If you have BCBS and are one of our patients, we are happy to continue seeing you and will make every effort to work with BCBS to find a swift resolution.

In the short term, as a BCBS patient, you can fill out a continuity of care form and submit it to BCBS -https://www.bcbstx.com/pdf/bcbstx-continuity-of-care-form.pdf

In the short term, as a BCBS patient, you can call your insurance company and ask them to renew their contract with Memorial Hermann.

Fortunately, our physical therapists already have THEIR own BCBS contract so they are still in-network and can continue their great work for our patients.

Have a great week and I hope this helps with any anxiety from the letter from BCBS. Please do not hesitate to cal if you have any questions.

Memorial Hermann is currently negotiating with BCBS TX for renewed hospital and other facility contracts, which impact the PPO/POS, EPO, Blue Essential HMO and Medicare Advantage HMO/PPO networks.

In the right patient, end-stage shoulder arthritis can be treated with a shoulder replacement. Most patients are able to regain full range of motion and have great improvements in their arthritis pain.

This patient had a surgery 3 months prior to this clinic visit. He is ready to get back to roping!

If you have shoulder pain that is not improving with rest or activity modifications, medications, or therapy, call our office for an evaluation with Dr. Chin - 832-698-0111

ACL tears can be confusing.

It can be overwhelming when considering the many different treatments of an ACL tear: ACL repair, bone-patellar-tendon bone autograft, quadricep tendon autograft, hamstring autograft, and allograft tissue.

Unfortunately, no two knee injuries are the same, and you should not accept a one-treatment-fits-all approach to your knee injury.

If you want customized treatment for your knee injury, if you have questions, or need a second opinion, call for a consultation with Dr. Paul Chin at 832-698-0111.

Shoulder pain can be a nagging pain that can make everyday activities difficult and cause sleepless nights.

If your shoulder pain is keeping you from enjoying your life or waking you up at night, arthritis could be the cause. Fortunately, most arthritis can be treated with physical therapy, medications or injections. If those fail to provide relief, minimally invasive shoulder surgery may be an option.

Check out the photos for pictures of arthritis and shoulder replacements.

To find out if your shoulder pain might be arthritis, please ask for a consultation with Dr. Chin at 832-698-0111.

About me...

I am a Board Certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine, arthroscopic surgery of the shoulder, hip and knee, and joint replacements. I have extensive experience and expertise in treating all conditions of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Whether you have a badly torn rotator cuff, a dislocating shoulder problem, hip impingement, labral tear, meniscus tear, or an anterior cruciate ligament tear, my team and I can help you understand the problem and offer solutions for rehab and potential repair.

As a member of the International Hip Preservation Society, one of my goals is to advance the understanding and treatment of hip problems with minimally invasive hip surgery. I have been fortunate to train and work with leaders in cartilage restoration and have extensive experience in treating cartilage injuries of the shoulder, hip, and knee. For those joints where cartilage repair procedures are not possible, I perform joint replacements for arthritis including shoulder replacements, robotic-assisted partial knee or total knee replacements, and total hip replacements. My team and I are focused on maintaining a patient-centered approach to medicine and fully exploring nonsurgical treatments before considering surgery. If surgery becomes an option, understanding the surgical goals and expectations after surgery are our number one goal for you.
