River Valley Veterinary would like to welcome our newest team member: Meet Mariah - Veterinary Technician

Passionate about animal care, I’ve always been drawn to helping animals heal and supporting their well-being. I love the constant learning in this field—whether it’s a new medical technique or a fun animal behavior trick—and the incredible bond between people and their pets inspires me daily. Originally from Oregon, I moved to Pennsylvania in 2024 with my husband and teenage son. We share our home with five beloved dogs and three parrots. I studied Animal Science and Fisheries & Wildlife at Oregon State University before attending veterinary technician school. My experience includes wildlife rescue, exotic animal care, and work with the Oregon Tiger Sanctuary. I’ve also been deeply involved in animal rescue efforts. Outside of work, I enjoy horseback riding, martial arts, movies, and family time. I’m grateful to be part of a professional, supportive, and friendly team that feels more like family, all committed to compassionate animal care.

What is a True Pet Emergency?
A veterinary emergency isn’t always easy to identify. It can range from visible injuries to subtle signs of internal distress. Some common emergencies include choking, difficulty breathing, seizures, broken bones, or sudden collapse. Additionally, ingestion of toxic substances, heatstroke, or persistent vomiting could warrant immediate attention. It’s crucial to trust your instincts when you notice unusual behaviour or symptoms in your pet and get them to the veterinarian promptly.

Does your dog love people and getting lots of attention❓
Do they have manners and sit or stand politely while getting attention❓

Have you thought, “I would love to take my dogs to hospitals or nursing homes?”🏩

Do you wonder, "What are the steps in getting my dog certified as a Therapy Dog?"🦮

We offer ALL the classes to certify your dog as a Therapy Dog! 🐾

Dogs must have their Canine Good Citizen (CGC) prior to becoming a Therapy Dog. We offer an Intro to the CGC where the dogs will learn all the steps necessary to pass the CGC Test!✅

We offer the Canine Good Citizen Class. Our trainer is an AKC Evaluator and a Certified Trainer.🙌🏽

We also offer the Therapy Dog Class. Certification will be through Therapy Dogs United. Dogs will learn how to be comfortable around walkers, wheelchairs, and canes and become familiar with hospital sounds and distractions🩼👩🏽‍🦽

We do require dogs to be up to date on their Rabies and Distemper vaccines and have Bordetella vaccine within the last 6 months💉

We look forward to helping your dog make a PAWSitive impact on the community!🐾♥️🐾
